Thanks for the kind words Rich, I found this on CL in Pittsburgh. As soon as I saw it, I sent an e-mail and followed that with a phone call leaving a message. The kid called me back about two hours later and I was thinking, "It's gone". The kid told me he still had it but had many phone calls about it. I told him I would be working about 45 miutes from him the next day and asked if I could see it. He told me as long as he was there. I sent him an e-mail first thing in the morning and told him to call me when he was home to set up a time. I was literally 15 minutes from finishing work and still had not received a call yet. The he called and said it was still there and I was welcome to see it. I am surprised I did not get it a ticket getting there. He was a student in Pittsburgh and used it for class. He was originally from Texas and was moving home soon as he was graduating. He left it outside over the winter and could not get it to start. Lots of rust but it looked complete. He laid it down once so there were scratches on the one side. I kicked it over so I knew it was not siezed but the battery was dead. I gave him $50 and told him it was sold and I would be back down in a few days with the wife's minivan. Went down three days later, paid him the balance. He brought out the new trunk which was never used. I also bought the matching helmet for $20. Stuffed in the back of the Honda Odyssey and brought it home. Charged the battery and cleaned out the carb. Still could not get it to idle although it would fire up. My dad helped me with the old gas in the spray bottle trick. I took the carb off again and found the prime jet plugged solid. Broke it free with a sewing needle and pair of pliers, put it back together and it fired right up. Been cleaning, scrubbing and tweaking since.
Two funny things about the purchase are: 1. About three days before this bike, I went to look at another. It was a 2008 Wildfire that was advertised for $350. Me and my son went to look at it and it was a mess. It was originally orange but they painted it flat black. It was laid down and the plastic was cracked, and they taped together the plastic and painted over it. It started right up and ran right along but looked like a$$. I walked away telling him I would think about it. I thought about trying to strip off the black paint down to the orange (too much work). I thought about buying replacement plastics (too much money) so I decided against it. Thought about how I would never find one cheaper. Three days later...Bingo found the Roketa.
2. About a month before, I sold a Tomos moped for $350. I bought it for $70, and put $80 into it for parts to fix up. Cleaned, scrubbed, fixed and got it running. Sold it for $350, made $200 profit, exactly the price of the Roketa.
Must have been fate.

Well I bought and put on some new mirrors and guess what I saw? Cars behind me...holy crap. I can actually see more than my sleeve when I look in the mirrors. Color matches good so I am a happy camper. Does not have the turn signal indcators but that is fine.

I took a little better picture of my bike this Sunday. I took a ride to a little town called Volant about 10 miles north of New Castle. Parked and walked a few minutes and watched 6 guys fly fishing for trout. Watched them about 20 minutes and none got a bite. Done quite a bit to the bike including cleaning and wire brushing almost every visible nut and bolt. Painted some of the brackets and steel wooled the rims. No new seat yet, coming this week. Still have less than $250 invested in the scoot.

Sometimes that is the best thing. For $35 I would try it and see if it fixes everything.

How was the float and needle valve? Did it move freely or was it tight? Sounds like the float is stuck open. Here is a good video about the carb. See if it is what you did.

No problem about the questions, I also had a ton. Make sure the filter points toward the carb. You may want to take it off and blow through it to make sure it is clear. Blow in the same direction as the arrow. That is step one, if it is free, take the carb off by pulling off the gas hoses. You may want to take a piece of masking tape arount the hose and labelling it with a sharpie so you know how they go back on. Loosen the two hose clamps on each end of the carb. Take off the one that connects to the air cleaner. I usually take off the choke (auto enrichener) and leave it hooked up in the bike. Let us know when you get the carb out.

My filter is up near the tank. Follow the line from the fuel tank and you will find it. Take one end off and see if fuel comes out, then take off the other end and see if an equal amount comes out. When you pull the carb, the most important thing is to check the jets. They are the two brass tube things in the bottom of the carb under the float bowl. Take a flat head screwdriver and take both of them out. You have to be able to see light through BOTH of them. Take a small wire and run it through them making sure they are clean. My prime jet was so plugged, I soaked it in Gumout overnight and had to use a sewing needle and pliers to get through. Started and ran perfect after that. As far as the premium gas, I could not tell you, I have used regular without issues, maybe one of the dealers could jump in here and answer this.

There is not a quicker way to burn this off that I know of. I have never used Seafoam but have heard good things about it. Is the gas in there the original that came with the scoot? I heard that Chinese gas goes bad very quickly and causes all kinds of issues. I can't remember if you checked or changed the fuel filter or not. Sounds to me like it either is running out of gas or loading up. I am leaning towards running out of fuel because when you give it gas, it stalls. I would pull the carb off and clean it. If you need help let us know.

Will it sit there and idle for a while and then die? Does it start and then die quickly? Does it die when you give it throttle?

Sounds like the prime jet got plugged. Look at #3 on my previous post about spraying gas in the intake where the air filter is. If it runs, should be the prime jet that controls starting and idling. You will have to take it out and clean it out. We can walk you through that. Let us know if it runs with the gas.
Your getting close.

OK, We are going to get you running again. Try these three things: 1. MAKE SURE THE KILL SWITCH IS ON. The more I read the thread, the more I think it was bumped and that is the reason it won't start so check this first.
2. If the killswitch is on, take the new plug, pull off the spark plug wire from the plug and LEAVE the original one in the motor. Plug the new spark plug into the boot until it clicks. Lay it against some metal, the valve cover will work. Spin the motor over and see if the plug has a nice wide blue spark. If it does, go ahead and put in the new plug like described and make sure the boot clicks ensuring it is on. This means you have spark and you can eliminate the CDI. If there is no spark, there is an electric problem with the keyswitch, killswitch or CDI.
3. If you have spark, take off the air cleaner and put a little gas in a spray bottle and while you are spinning the motor over, spray some gas into the intake where the air cleaner was and see if it starts. If it starts and runs, you have a fuel delivery problem and we need to start looking at the carb and fuel delivery system.
If you have spark and still cannot get it to start by spraying gas into the intake then we need to start looking at compression but at 5 miles, I doubt we will have to go that route. Try these things and let us know the outcome. We will go from there.

Went fishing this weekend. This first one was the first cast of the day The second one is my son's last cast. He was afraid to hold it so I did. Do these look like the same fish. I thought they were till i looked at the pics. The first one is much fatter and the second one is longer. Also, how much do you guys think they weigh?

Took a beautiful ride through Amish country today, to the town of New Wilmington and Westminster College a fine learning institution. I did learn two things today: 1. Watch out for road apples, they will screw up your world. 2. If you don't have the helmet windscreen down, don't open your mouth while riding.

I would start with around 120-150 grit. That will take off most of the paint. Once done, I would go to about 320 to take out any of the big scratches and make wet sanding the primer easier. Spray about 4 good coats of primer with the first being very light. Sand the primer with 600 grit and water dipping the paper in the water. Should be very smooth and ready for paint. Wash it VERY good and make sure it is clean and dry it but let it dry overnght as paint and water do not mix. Before you paint, wipe off with a tacky cloth and you are ready. Spray about 4 coats again with the first being very light again. Clear if you want.
