Could have shifted the whole assembly. The carb and tube and airbox all basically are held on by those two intake bolts. ZRemove all and inspect. Check electrical connections to coil and cdi as well. Impact may have jiggled them a bit. Got to be simple. The last Tao Tao I had was wrecked 3 times much worse than yours and never had running problems after that!

The performance variator is actually a bit shorter than the stock if i lay them down flat. It would make sense if it were wider than stock.

Found out my DLH performance variator has a boss thats about 1/16 inch longer than the original? Why would they do that? What effect does that have over the shorter one?

I guess it has to do with the weakness on the contra. Mine is practically brand new and as time goes on it will probably engage sooner.

After looking at replacements i think i may have figured out what happened. Initially I lost one of the guides that came with the performance variator and put my stock ones on. The fact that it has a larger face means that the stock guides were not large enough to take up the slack. Ive seen so many different types out there while shopping and the ones i need are larger for this variator. The stock ones are a bit smaller. To test the theory I too 2 of the ones i had left and tried them on my stock variator and it would not fit. The back plate would not go down so that means the stock ones were probably too small for it. SUpposed to use these

I got a DLH variator awhile back and Ive gone through 2 sets of guides. When I take off the variator for inspection some are missing. today all but 1 was gone! Whats happening?
Is there a trick to securing these things on the back plate? I press then in as best I can. Should they be bonded or something or should they be allowed to free float?

The pin on those are non adjustable. Mine came with a 74 and it seemed ok. My valves on my 2013 were tight.

I still dont know if it was. For all i know it may have slightly. I have no way of telling. If it happens again then i guess it is because that locktite should keep them from loosening.

I looked at but I dont really know what to look for. I assume that the handlebars themselves would be higher if that were the case? They dont seem to be

This is the one I had and it looks very much like the Koso even down to the backplate logo. My concern is that there was too much play between the boss and variator. How does your product fit in a boss?
