Me too. It told me I hadn't posted since 3/7/14 and wanted me to get active again. Damn! Just like a jealous girlfriend.

I was in AutoZone yesterday getting all the oil I expect to use for the break in and couldn't find any SeaFoam. When I went to check out, I found out why: they had it all stacked up by the registers because it was on sale for almost half off. I got a bottle for $7.99. I'm not sure if that's just a local thing or not. Might be worth looking into. Congrats on the fun ride man. I'm solidly jealous. I'm happy to hear it was awesome!

I appreciate the insight guys, I really do. I don't want to sound like an unappreciative smart-arse, but this is what drives me nuts. I've scoured the interwebs for a definitive answer and I can't find it. Some say drive it 10 MPH for the first 50K miles. Some say drive it like you stole it from Day 1. Others say to just drive it normally. Most people come down somewhere in the middle. Perhaps it exists somewhere, but I can't find an actual qualitative analysis of how to properly break in an engine. It reminds me of how when I got a cough as a kid, my Grandad would make me eat a spoonful of Vick's because that's what his Dad did, and his Dad before him. There was no real reason why. It's just something that was done because someone said it works.

I'm sorry to do this guys. I'm certain there is a good discussion somewhere around here on engine break-in procedure, but I can't find it. Can you either send me a link to it or let me know the best way to go about it? Thanks!

One step ahead of you. I picked up some Seafoam in anticipation of using that junk fuel. The only reason I used that gas is that my gas can was full of it and I wasn't going to dump it or by another gas can. I figured one tank full couldn't do much damage.

To tag on to what Alley is saying, I had a similar experience today. I started my bike for the first time and the lowest I could get it to idle was at about 3500 RPM. A few minutes of checking into it led me to find the problem: That black rubber boot shown in Alley's pictures had slipped down and was stuck between the cable and control wheel, increasing the effective radius of the wheel and causing a high idle.

Great post! As soon as I test all the other systems on my bike, this is the first thing I'm changing.

I bought a new pack a couple weeks ago and it's amazing. I bought it for school and/or camping. It's amazing the amount of crap you can fit in this bag. It's covered in MOLLE webbing, so you can attach whatever you want. It also has a compartment for a water bladder, like a Camelback. When I bought it, I did so with a scooter commute in mind. Here's a link: Red Rock Large Assault Pack. I bought a water bottle holder for it too that's also pretty sweet: Condor Drink Carrier. If I were you, I'd also pack a GMRS radio. If you get out in the boonies and break down, you might not have phone service, but you can at least try to get someone on the radio. You'd hate to end up like this:

Thanks cyborg. I didn't really know what to expect, especially with that garbage gasoline I put in it. I was pleasantly surprised. I'm not sure why. So far, everything has gone much better than expected.

It's looking like the stars will align perfectly for me here in IL. I should be able to get the bike registered tomorrow or Monday. The forecast for Monday is in the 60's, with two or three other days next week in the high to mid 50's. I'm chomping at the bit!

IT RUNS!!!! I dumped in a gallon of low-grade gas that has been sitting in my garage for 3 years in it, primed the fuel lines, pushed the go button, and it fired up after about 1.5 seconds. She's road ready now. I'm just waiting on my MCO from the dealer. I'm hoping it's in the mail tomorrow. KZ, thanks for the heads up. It seems to be running fine for right now. My plan is to take it out on Monday, put that first 50 miles on it, then change the fluids and set the valves to what you recommend. I played around with the carb today too, but I didn't want to get too serious with it until I burn that crapty gas out of there and get some fresh, high octane in it.
I'm pretty pumped. Thanks for your help in getting me this far, guys!
