thanks for the ideas, I have a couple developments. the piston was badly cracked after the connecting rod broke/bent. there's also a very minor bit of rust in the cylinder. beyond that, I couldn't see any other issues, the trans is quite dry.

I accidentally ran through a puddle about a month ago(a big one), and it immediately killed my scooter. after which, the kickstart was locked up. SO, my pop did something and said that would definitely drain all the water out of the engine.. well, I've been busy and only just now gotten a chance to try to take the engine off and guess what. about half a cup of water drained out of it. this makes me pretty nervous, is the engine FUBAR now that it has sat for about a month with water in it?

hello, just bought a craigslist 2004 vino 2-stroke with 5000 miles. it wasn't running with much power, so my pop took two restrictors off of it, after which it had awesome acceleration, and got about 35 on flat ground. well, my friend wanted to ride it with me, so I let her sit on the back, and when we tried to ride it lost almost all of it's power. it alternately sounds weak or put-put janky, and gets about 8 mph on flat ground and forget about a slight incline. my dad was of the impression before this happened that the carb needed to be rebuilt, I'm curious what you folks might think? I'm about to go clean the spark plug to see if that at all helps.
