Thank you rks, I didn't even consider that but it explains ALOT (like why I have to set my idle at 2k or more)! I'll hook up another tach and see what I get.

Okay, still waiting on the "842" belt! Meanwhile, I run an average top speed of 60 MPH (GPS verified) at around 6K RPM's (have made it to 65 MPH at 6.5 RPM's on occasion)! I've discussed this with other scooter dudes, and they all say "leave it alone", but I'm still curious about the low RPM's. When I get the "842" belt, I'll update this. THANX AGAIN BASHAN!

Thanks Bashan! Yes, the outer pulley DOES fit tight against the boss when it's torqued (but not without the belt sliding up). I'll try the longer belt and see what happens. As far as the rpms, I thought 7,000 - 7,500 was the typical power band. I tried lighter weights (down to 7g's) but never got past 6,000! Mechanically, the engine seems and sounds fine, could this be the result of a restriction somewhere (everything except the variator is stock)? I've checked the CVT, carb., and bypassed the PAIR, maybe the CDI? I'll try to get some pics.

First, let me start by thanking all of you "geniuses" for my continued "schooling" in the fine art of Chinese scooter modifications/repairs! I decided before I bought one that I would take care of all the maintenance/repairs myself, rather than trust the ONLY local scooter repair shop (or GOD FORBID the local HONDA dealers)! This would have never been possible without you guys (and gals). Now for my question; I've got a 2013 Taotao ATM150-A with the 157QMJ GY6 engine and 13" wheels. The CVT belt that is installed is a 835-20-30 (I acquired the scooter pre-owned, so I do not know if it is the original). Upon recently installing a 115mm variator, I noticed that the fan doesn't fit completely over the splines of the shaft (because the width of the belt ext tends past the boss?) and when I tighten the nut the pressure actually moves the belt up the face of the variator. I have revisited the stock variator/boss and they are the same dimensions as the new ones, so it must have been experiencing the same conditions. Does this sound "normal" or familiar to any of you out there? Currently my belt doesn't travel to the top of either variator, and I can't seem to accelerate past 6,000 rpm's (started with 13g rollers, currently running 7g's)! I know there are dozens of variables involved, but I'm just wondering if the installed belt is too short to physically reach the top (I've noticed that some 150cc's run an 842-20-30 belt).

As usual, Alley's right! It's a good idea to check the variator components. As far as better performance, I've found that a good set of rollers beats almost anything else for noticeable improvement (you might even try going up or down a gram in weight)!

Good, I'm in luck then. Being in Texas, hot sun is something we have plenty of this time of year! I wonder if the heat of the sun would "bake" the paint too?!? Anyway, thanx jct842, I'm already prepared with lots of grease, oil, bacon grease, Crisco, whatever it takes! I just figured I would give mounting a shot, if all else fails there is a Honda shop less than half a mile from me that can mount and balance it for me. I just hate showing up there on my "Chinese" scooter (immediate attitudes, if you know what I mean)!

We are absolutely on the same page, jvino! The new rim arrived Saturday, I've already mounted it on the scooter (without a tire, just to check the fit), and since the new tires don't arrive until Tuesday I'm using today and tomorrow to paint it black to match the front rim. While I had it mounted on the scooter, I revved it up a few times and NO WARP OR WOBBLE! It appears that we nailed this one. Thanks for your input!

Not sure about anything electrical; and my experiences with variator trouble reminds me that usually you can "hear" and/or "feel" when the pulleys have troubles. Still, wouldn't hurt giving the CVT case a look-see!

Actually, the tire seems fine; it's the RIM that has developed a "warp" (not out of balance, but actually out of round)! Also a slight wobble, but from what I have checked so far the shaft seems OK. I chalked it up to a major impact with said pothole and CHINESE steel!

You might check your vacuum lines; mine had a hairline crack and it took me forever to think about checking those lines!

Bashan is right-on! I've toyed with different valve settings and ALWAYS come back to 0.002" on intake and 0.003" on exhaust (or 0.002" on both works too).

Thanks for that jvino! I guess I've got computer lag or something. While I was posting this thread, Google found this link; www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=299597that actually looks kind of interesting . . . still interested in hearing feedback if anyone has tried it!

Does anyone have any experience in hand-mounting 10" tires? I'm changing my rear wheel and tire on my Taotao 50 (hit one too many potholes, I guess), and considering trying to mount a tire on the new rim by hand. Crazy? Cocky? Dangerous?

THANK YOU Alley! No, there was never a plug in it, and yes, I probably have overfilled the tranny before (I use a bottle-and-nozzle thing, and usually tend to over fill over rather than under). I have been using a vacuum hose cover plug that fits over the tube, but if it's a vent I'm guessing I should remove it?!?
