No you can add seafoam at any time JUST ADD 1 oz per gallon does not take much it is very strong stuff.
So put it in and swish it around to mix it.

Hi, I'm new here and looking for info on TGB problem. I notice you guys are giving good advice for 4 stroke scooters but this is a minarelli 2stroke. There is always oil on top of piston by design, that's why they go through plugs so fast. They also have a little over half the compression as a 4stroke. I wouldn't worry about rings if he can't hold a finger over the plug hole.

Tom, Is your engine a 2 stroke?

Do you mix your oil and gas? Do you put oil in every time you gas up?
If so, then the kind of engine you have is different like Dent said.
But you can still use the Seafoam, and we can adjust the advice we give you.

If you do have a 2 stroke, then you will use up plugs fairly often.  I've had to change plugs in a 2T about 3 times a year in an engine that got used every day for hours.  (Weed whacker).  Your's might be less, might be more often.  Depends on how much you ride and how you ride.

Yes your correct his is a 2 stroke and there will always be a little oil because oil is mixed with the gas in the chamber. But to much oil and it will foul the plugs all the time and you will have a hard time starting the puppies. Way to spot if to much oil is being injected into the carb is how much it smokes. If a cloud of smoke is trailing you then to much oil is being injected into the carb and or to much oil is being pre-mixed.

Yep yep.  That's the easiest way to tell if you have the mix correct.  If it belches a big cloud then settles into something you can barely see, then it's Ok.  If you can see smoke all the time, then you are mixing way too much oil into the gas.

Yes indeed it is a two-stroke.  I should have clarified!  I also do NOT mix oil and gas.  They each have their own tank for refilling, and as of now they both are filled up with new stuff.

Thanks man.  I'll take a closer look.  I've been on a few rides and so far haven't seen big plumes after the ride has been going on for a while.  At the beginning I did, but that might have just been because if water that had gotten into the exhaust over the winter.  It was noticeable, but not an odd color, and didn't seem to last very long.  I'll take a closer look after 20 minutes riding.

Aside from the odd high idle-rev issue (noted above), which you said might be my enricher, I now have the odd thing that when the engine is cold the ignition does not start (but the kick start works with barely the slightest kick).  When warmed the key ignition does work.  Weird.  Maybe a circuit in the starter wiring set-up??

When you say the electric start does not work when cold what do you mean:
1. You squeeze the brake and push the start button and nothing happens?
2. You squeeze the brake and push the start button and the starter turns?
a. Does it turn fast or RRRRRR slow
3. Do your brake lights come on when you squeeze the brakes?

Hi.

1.  It turns,

2.  It turns quickly (thanks to replacing old battery from winter),

3.   Pretty sure brake lights (and headlamp) come on.

Sounds like not enough fuel have you checked the enricher and taken it off to see if it is extended when cold?

That's my next task -- Saturday, when i get some precious free time.

Gas tank is full, however, with highest grade unleaded gasoline.  I've never come across this enricher, but I spied something of similar shape, tucked under the right-front part of the scooter frame, further forward than the front-positioned spark plug and due south of the ignition.  that could be it.  I'll see if I can get a closer peek... it's really tucked away there.

The Enricher is part of the CARB, here I labeled it on your carb. It is held in with two screws and a C clamp. Take the two screws out and slide the clamp out and then just pull the ENRICHER out. You will see the slot built into the enricher where the C clamp fits into when puttingit BACK IN.
