Now my scoot won't start ... or have I posted this already..? My 2011 Jonway YY250T (MC-54) turns over fine, in fact if I can't fix the problem soon I may need to buy a new battery. Anyway, my scoot turns over, just doesn't start. I figured it was maybe spark or fuel. I got some starter fluid and sprayed down the air filter and it started great, and ran fine until the starter fluid ran out. So, I know I have spark, maybe it's the fuel filter. After about an hour I finally found the fuel filter and installed a new one.
Nothing, no help at all. Seems like gas isn't getting to the carb, but I don't know. I know very little mechanically and worried I'll get over my head if I don't get help........so, help

Crud in the carburetor is clogging up the jets. Time to remove the carb and clean it. Then make sure the fuel pump is pumping by taking off the fuel line and spinning the engine. It should spray fuel.

How long has the gas been in the tank? If longer than 30 days it has gone bad and you need to clean the fuel system including the  carb. If not you will need try something else.

You had started changing you fuel filter. Did it ever get changed?

If you decide to do it is good to changed the cheapo fuel line that is on these things.

Take a few deep slow breaths.

O.K., What I am about to tell you requires no mechanical genius. You changed the fuel filter so you know where the fuel line is. Follow the fuel line to the carb disconnect the fuel line and place the end of the line in a jar or something else to catch gasoline. Once you have done this crank the engine for a few seconds. If you get no fuel in the jar follow the fuel line to the fuel pump it will look something like this,

There are three hoses attached to the fuel pump, a fuel in, a fuel out, and a vacuum line. Make sure all the lines are securely attached, and follow the vacuum line to the carb and make sure the vacuum line is secure there as well. Test again by cranking the engine. If you get fuel in the jar the problem should be solved, reattach the fuel hose to the carb and crank the engine, it should start. If you do not get fuel in the jar, the fuel pump is the problem and it will need to be replaced.

If you get fuel to flow to the jar (after removing the line from the carb) and the engine does not get gas something is wrong with the carb and it is time to make a carb help post.

Mybe just take it in steps you need fuel,compression,spark. pull spark plug ground is turn over engine if so put in plug take off the air cleaner spray some fuel in and crank if starts fuel problem.

I have the round fuel pump in that pic above. It is in a 2007 JCL MP250A . Although the scooter wasn't bought by me until march 2012. So the fuel pump was at least 4 1/2 to 9 years old. No matter what not bad for an $18 (on Ebay) fuel pump. Anyway Mine had the exact same senario as yours. I screwed with everything as the guys are saying here. Turned out the fuel pump was shot. My advice, Check the fuel pump and vacuum hose that goes to fuel pump first as said above. Then if it pumps fuel then see if you have spark. If you have spark then start checking your carburetor float bowl to clear your jets. If it is hard to get to your spark plug as mine was then check to see if jets are clogged then check to see if it will start then. If not a spark check is in order..

Another question
How do I check to see if there's fuel coming out of the fuel tank..? If I remove the incoming side of the fuel filter, will gas start flowing out..? Nothings getting to carb...

You have a fuel pump because the tank is lower than the carb. If you take the hose off the filter unless the hose was lower Than the tank you will not see any gas dripping out. You need to see that there is vacuum at the vacuum port on the gas pump. Bad hoses, loose or cracked intake manifolds are some of the things to look for when loosing vacuum. One other thing is to take gas hose off between pump and carb, crank over engine to see gas flowing from pump. If you do get gas when cranking there is only one thing left that causes no gas in carb and that is the carb it self and then you need to clean it by taking it off and opening it up. There are some instructions in the library here. If you do not get gas when cranking out of the fuel pump, it is either bad or you do not have vacuum. (Empty gas tank?) All hoses need replacement on chinese scooters that age unless they have already been replaced with quality hoses.

Got a new fuel pump installed but should have checked the old one since no gas is coming out as I crank the engine. Probably didn't need one. Couldn't reach the carb very well so I removed the line from the fuel pump that goes up to the carb, crank her over and nothing.
So, could be vacuum or the carburetor.. Where does the vacuum line go from the fuel pump..? I'm having a real hard time getting to things. Have no idea how the body panels come off so I'm working from under the bike ( did remove the bottom panels to find the fuel filter) and from under the battery cover and the little removable access panel under the seat... not much room.

p.s. are fuel lines and vacuum lines different..?

Do it right and remove those panels so that you can find and remove the carb and the hoses. It just takes a little time to locate the fasteners and tabs on the plastic. I am not sure on the order of removal but until you get familiar and do it you will be hampered.

The vacuum line and or manifold are good probability for your problem.

Thanks, Where does the vacuum line end from the fuel pump..? The body panels have no outside screws showing. They must be taken off a different way...I think.

Remove the seat. At least on my old one that was where you started. The screws are jap philips type and you see very few from the outside. Just follow the hose from fuel pump to where it goes, either carb or manifold. And change all the hoses while you are in there. I get quality silicon ones from the local saw and small engine shop. I don't like tygon ones as they get hard. Your vacuum hose may already have one end off or loose. Some of the scooters have a little hatch or inspection type opening under the seat in the storage box and under the carpet in the bottom.

Still can't find how to remove body panels. But I did pull the top off the carburetor found the "Pop goes the Weasel" spring. There was a rubber type inner lining inside the top of the carb. At the bottom was a white kind of a almost sprocket looking thing. Should I spray Carburetor Cleaner down there..? Will it hurt the rubber liner or the white plastic thing at the bottom of the carb..? What do I do now..?
