I'm thinking of purchasing the DiBlasi R7 folding moped but have some questions about the performance. I live in the Dallas/ Ft. Worth area and everything is pretty spread out here. The research I have done shows it tops out at about 30 mph which isn't bad for such a small bike but we have few roads here with a 30mph limit on them. I have seen on other forums that there is an aftermarket kit that bumps it up to about 70cc. I only need a top speed of about 45 mph to keep from getting run over on the city side streets around here. Any knowledge or tips would be appreciated

This thing is so cool! I have never heard of one before and I doubt many of the reprobates around here have either. Here's a picture, and the Di Blasi web site so we know what the little guy looks like:

I looked at the upgrade package that's online and I think it would work:

The main problem would be that the 2T engine is made only by Di Blasi and therefore there's just not a lot of aftermarket products available. Also, you have to remember, if you get a 10% improvement on a 5 HP (just guessing) engine you jacked it up to 5.5 HP; I doubt you would notice a great deal of difference. I think the real limiting factor will be the brakes. If you have a 5" rim and the drum brake fits inside, so it's maybe a 4" drum brake. Good luck and ride safe whatever you decide. Robb

I'd probably rather have one of those, than the donut spare they make you deal with now days on most cars.

Your allowed to ride that on the streets in Texas? I would think you'd have to ride that on the sidewalk like a goped.

That's a really cool little bike!!! I think A 64 pound Bike at 30mph would be an adventure as is. If the $1995.00 price was more reasonable it could be a spare scooter for scooters ;D I would replace my Top Box with a folding scoot (Joking) ;D ;D ;D

It it has 2 wheels and a gasoline engine it's a motorcycle in Texas and requires a full class M motorcycle license, insurance, registration, motorvehicle inspection and must be operated on the street. On the shoulder or sidewalk they could give you a ticket. Robb

Wow, I'd be worried about being too low to the ground in traffic. I would think a truck driver sitting way up in the cab could accidently run you over and never realize it. I believe I'd have to have one of those orange flags on it to be more visible.

I have seen someone riding one of those, it is funny to see, the persons knees are way up high by their chin. They are tiny as heck.

You asked how fast you could make a diblasi R7 go? Depends on it's terminal velocity... but about 32 feet per second squared... how tall is the cliff?

This summer, I actually got mine to between 28.5 and 32.5 mph.
Granted, the innane Chinese computer kept switching between readings, and I can't figure out a way to mount a proper speedometer.

As for the sidewalks- what the hell have you been smoking?

Now handling is something you need to practice with. As our riders with ScooterGuy (www.goscooterguy.com) find themselves in suburbs with deer running around at night, to the occasional rural road where we have to ride to a pick-up point, to the busy Friday & Saturday nights in the club districts here- each rider MUST wear hard shoes, long pants, proper gloves, proper helmet (full-face/modular is preferred) and a reflective vest; and I take each rider on a checkride before he or she gets that bike.

I cover unfolding/folding, how to drain the carb before you stow it in the bag to go ina client's car, kick starting, operator safety checks (pre & post ride) how to do simple maintenance, and these are MY Rules- the company just says ride with vest & helmet.

I take these bikes personally- if it's not good enough for me to ride, it sure as hell ain't good enough for you!

The DiBlasi is a unique bike, and in spite of the price, it is a rugged and durable machine. Considering all the abuse these bikes have gone through before I took over, they are really not that hard to maintain. Add to this you can carry a spare vehicle in your car, SUV, that is street legal, and a helluva lot of fn to ride- go for it!
