LED stop/tail light bulb...any suggestions? By looker (Read 2,482 times)

Hi guys,
I started with one of these,



totally useless, could barely see it in daylight.
Recently got this type, lot better,



but still not too good for the brake light.
Here's some comparison pics,
standard twin filament bulb on tail circuit,



and brake circuit,



Now the 68 LED on tail,



and brake,



The difference in the pictures does'nt look to be much, but to the naked eye it's huge, especially for the brake light.

Anyone found a good LED replacement for this type of 380/1157 twin filament bulb?

I haven't started using LEDs yet so I don't know a great deal about them. A lot of the guys really like these bulbs but I couldn't find the one you mentioned. Maybe you can find it since you know what you're looking for. Good luck, Rich

And I can vouch for those, I have those LEDS on my Trike. In fact the only thing that Isn't an LED on my Trike are the Headlights. And Since I not drive at night I do not need anything brighter. Before The Leds my wife used to drive behind me and she could barely see my brake light in the sun and the turn signals where even worse they could not be seen when the bright sun was out. Now with the Leds you can see my Brake lights as well as my Turn Signals.

yep, white LED. Scoot had a clear opening in the bottom of the red lense to illuminate the licence plate. Had put some aluminium tape on the inside to seal it and reflect the light back up, then fitted a seperate licence plate light.
Forgot about that when I bought the new LED bulbs
The 13w bulb you suggested looks great, is there a big difference between normal running light and brake light?

you've used the 13w bulb?
I take it you had to use load resisters for the turn signals?
I'd really like to have brighter turn signals on the rear. I'll have to wait and see if I can get these bulbs as funds are limited at the moment

Sorry, I meant what blinker bulbs?
Are you using 1157 type?
Mine have a different base, BAY9S I believe

Yes, mine are 1156 and 1157 did not have to nothing but just swap the old OEMs out and plug in the Leds.

In researching the many advantages of choosing LED lighting, it seems only natural that an environmentally safe, energy efficient and cost-effective lighting system, should illuminate the way into a greener and considerably brighter future.

Set the meter to read 12-VDC and place the negative test probe on the negative battery terminal and the positive test probe on the positive battery terminal. A fully charged battery will read in the range of 12.6 to 12.7 volts. If it reads less than 12-volts it is below a 50% state of charge and will need to be charged.

Definately part of the wave of the future, as energy costs escalate it will be inevitable. For scooterists, I think we're all chomping at the bit for LED headlights! Welcome to the forum Roselani and thank you for your first post. Rich

Always the best place to start when looking at any electrical system on a scooter. And welcome to the forum as well Newman. Rich

These are the ones I have In AMBER for the Turn Signals Rear and RED for the Running Lights and Stop Light, in 1156 and 1157 version

I have bought from these guys on a number of occasions and the quality is excellent. They are shipped from Hong Kong and it take 3-4 weeks to get them by mail.

They have a full range of LEDs and flasher resistors etc...
