Hi all - So yesterday the piece on my center stand in which I step on to put the bike on the stand broke off (from rust). I can still use the stand but the bike is heavy and I am tiny person - its a struggle for me to put my foot behind the stand and hoist the bike backwards onto it.

My question for you is do you have any creative ideas on how to keep my bike sturdy with the side stand while I await a new center stand? Or some other way to rig the center stand with something I can step on to hoist the bike back? I ride my bike everyday and apart from asking for help every time I park, I don't see another way to safely park my bike.

I know what you mean, as nicely engineered as my Pegasus is they put that pad on the centerstand back under the CVT cover so you can't use it. I have to stick my foot behind the stand like you're talking about, it's a PITA. Can't you use your kickstand until the new part shows up? Rich

Thanks Rich. I can use the kickstand but its just not very sturdy and it scares me. I gust of wind or someone walking too close to it could easily knock it over. I park on residential streets when I go to work and I would hate for it to fall on to someone's car or even the ground.

For a temp fix, you *may* be able to drill a hole through the kickstand and bracket (in the 'down' position) so that you can push a dowel/cotter pin through to 'lock' the kickstand in place when you're parked.

Admittedly not the most sophisticated measure, but really simplicity is best when you can make it work. 2 minutes with a drill is totally worth knowing your kickstand isn't going to fold up and make your scoot eat asphalt.

evilgeniius: The problem isn't that the side stand collapses on her scooter when down! The problem is with all chinese scoots the side stand just isn't stable! Even the slightest bump or the sllightest gust of wind will knock the scoot over when on the side stand!

I wish there was someting I could recommend but quite frankly I don't see any alternative than to take your chances on using the side stand and pray that nothing happens until you can get a new center stand or continue to ask for help in getting the scooter on the center stand. Better to ask for help than to have it fall over!

It would take very little to modify the side stand to 100% more stable. It needs to lean more, and also the weight of scooter has to lock it in place. Since on a motor cycle you always leave the bike in gear its side stand is a lot more stable because it can not roll forward and with a scooter it will roll with the slightest push or shove. john

all you need is a grinding tool. if you take a look at your kick stand, when you open it up, it rests on a stopper plate when its fully extended. if you grind some of the metal off of this stopping plate, your kickstand will open further, thus making your bike sit with more of a lean as apposed to sitting almost straight up, making it much more difficult to knock over. i would suggest taking this route. just be sure not to take too much off of the stop plate because you cant put it back. i would start off with taking a half inch off of the plate and then quarter inch pieces untill you get your desired bike position. i would post a pic to show you what to cut but i recently broke my phone screen so i cant take any more pics im looking for a pic now on the net to show you.

ok heres some pics of 2 different kickstands, one is of a kickstand open and one is of a kickstand closed. now disreguard my previous measurements of starting with a half inch. i would do a quarter of an inch on each cut and after each cut i would hook it back up to see how much it leans that way you dont go over board.

this is how they look closed. note you can see the stopper plate.


when its opened up it hits the stopper plate as shown below.



what you want to do is cut the area in the red circle starting from the right side which is the side the kick stand hits first. be sure when cutting to keep the angle that the stop plate has.
