I have new cylinder rings on piston, how do I get the engine back together the cylinder rings are not compressing enough.

is the ring gap ok? eg not compressing enough. if the gaps too tight beforehand you run a chance of them expanding when the motors hot and can shattering.. also i lube the rings and barrel when assembling i'm can usually compress rings by hand but if you want you can use a spring compresser. or even a hose clamp...(thats more of a MacGyver rig) just dont score the piston..

Yep-terry is right on. the ring gaps also need to be stagered. all gaps shoud be as far apart as possibe. Top 2 rings (compression) gaps should be 180 degrees apart and bottom 3 rings ( oil control I like the top and bottom 180degrees apart and 90 degrees from center spacer.

Dang it, I hate this site with my cell phone. Ok, I an fine with the rings, getting engine back together, I can't get the part that the cylinder travels in to seat over the rings, is there a trick.

I also learned a trick about about the oil rings. if you gently and carefully squeeze they bend in one direction and one direction only, the ends should point upwards if not flip it over so they do.

EDIT: yes there is you need a tool, thank fully it can be made. what you need is a ring compressor . . .







I think you can make one out of a pop can or tin can.

Ok The . the problem is that I am an idiot I have attached the poison to the engine already, then I was trying to put on the cylinder. I had no idea that it would be way simpler to do it without it attached. I will do that tomorrow

You want the piston attached to the crank, squeeze the rings in, slide on the cylinder.

No, I can't get in there, there are the 4 long bolts for head in the way.

You made it sound like that is horrible. It solves a few problems for me.

There is a small lip on the bottom of the cylinder that is where you slip in the piston with the ring compressor. it all slides on, back together just make sure you have your gaskets and the O-ring if it needs/has one, in place first.

This is a piece of craps. I am done. I .am getting a name brand. I need to pieces to fit every time not kind of fit, not poor sort of. it's bull. I hate this piece of craps now. I didn't do any research to find what kind of piece of craps it was.

the rings don't fit properly I am not machining it. it should have just fit. instead, just like everything else doesn't fit, it doesn't work right.

how do the rings fit? too big? You realize don't you that the rings need to be test fitted in the cyl to check ring gap before you try to assemble the piston in the cyl. the ends of the piston rings need to be fitted and have a measured gap between them when they are square in the cyl.

The cyl needs to be honed and cross hatched and it can not have any uneven wear in the cyl. Ask me how I know? If the cyl is worn it needs reboring with over sized parts. This is for any motor, whether it be cheap or the most expensive one
