There is a sticker on the side of my Roketa 250cc that says "change oil after first 300 miles and every 1000 miles thereafter." However, in the owner's manual, it says "change oil after first 1000 kilometers (roughly 650 miles) and every 3000 kilometers thereafter (almost 2000 miles).
I changed the oil initially at 650 miles; now my mileage is at 1670, so should I change the oil now or should I wait until when the manual said?
Also, a tutorial on how to change the oil would be appreciated, since $33 seems steep as I watched the guy before, and it seems to just involve twisting a knob and then putting new oil in.

Does the 250 need oil changes less frequently? Just curious. I'm out of my league here talking with the "big boys".
I forgot the every interval, but I believe the factory manual for my 170 basically said to change the oil every 2000 miles. But, the bike itself has an indicator light that comes on every 620ish miles (1000km), it looks just like an oil pressure idiot light, but its not. So, the bike is telling me something other than what my manual said. Well, I was following the maintence schedule in my manual and I think that may have been part of what led my motor to self destruct. Once I've got her running again, I'm going to listen to that damn light.

the manual says every 1k miles if i remember correctly...either way better safe then sorry and 1 quart is cheap so no big deal to change it at that interval...and it only takes a couple of minutes to do so thats a big plus too :-)

Alright, trying to change the oil and that bolt will NOT BUDGE. I even tried hammering the wrench handle down to get it to loosen a bit but it will not budge no matter what I do!

Are you turning it the right direction? Dont take me asking as a insult. I have seen many people do it, even a mechanic of 30+ yrs.
When I loosen bolts that are tight I usually lock a 2nd wrench into the open end of the one Im using to get more leverage. It works a lot better than taking a hammer to it. -Zug

Maybe the manual was more because it was taking the chinometer into account lol.
I change mine every 1000 miles (after break-in). I'm only at 900 miles total and have changed it 3 times.. so once I finally get to 1000 miles I'll be changing it at each 1k mark.
1000 miles might be a bit early too.. remember, that's 1000 miles on your odometer, and these things run fast as it is. Mine is 20% over! So I guess in actual miles I'm changing it at 800.
