so i just put in a new main jet in my carb and i am trying to seat the fuel bowl o ring but it won't stay in the slot. i am not talking about when i flip it over to put it back on i mean the rubber o ring literally pop out. if i get one edge seated properly the other edge pops out no matter if i hold it in. i was wondering is it safe to use RTV black gasket sealer to help?

When they get wet with fuel they tend to expand and will shrink back down when little dryer. Alleyoop

NO! Do not use black RTV or anything else. It'll be a real PITA to clean up in the future and bits of it can work loose and get into the carb. If you read the instructions on about all of the RTVs it says they are not made for direct gasoline contact. Heat the gasket up in hot water and carefully give it a stretch. That way it won't contract and pop out of it's groove when you're trying to put the bowl on. You can get some Permatex gasket material at the auto store and cut out a bowl gasket if you want to pitch the OEM one.

Thanks bashan. I think i got it in correctly. I put the carb on and so far it isn't leaking gas.

Although if it was leaking how easy would it be to notice? I mean could it seep out at a rate where one would not notice a smell or see drips?

You'd smell it, it doesn't take much. Also, even a little seepage would empty the fuel line and make it hard to start or run like crap until it purged the air. If those things aren't happening don't worry about it.
