Redstreak 250 Navigator bought new, crankshaft noise with belt off
Need somebody to replace crankshaft in this 244cc engine
Any dealer or mechanic close to Newnan,ga. 30 miles south of Atlanta Ga.

You sure it is the crankshaft and not the STARTER CLUTCH? Can you take a VIDEO of it idleing?

I would go with Alley's advice. Main bearings don't usually knock when they go-they growl. I would grab the shaft and lift it up and down and see if it moves. If it's knocking bad enough to bother you it should move considerably. If it doesn't it might be a lower end bearing on the connecting rod you're hearing. My personal method would be to ride it and see if it gets worse. If not you might have clearances at the high end of tolerable. Try using 20W-50 oil in the engine and see if that changes the noise.
