Ok guys... here goes... I bought a 2007 250cc Roadrunner I-Scooter today for cheap....

First things first... The temp on the bike gets to H really FAST... not during idle, but while running it down the road. My first question is this... Should the hoses for the water coolant be hard while hot? Because they are not... I am gonna flush it 100% out tomm and add new aluminum safe coolant to it. At this point all the plastic is still on and I haven't seen a fan yet nor heard one. I have read on other threads that this bike does run a little hot... I am not smelling anything hot? THOUGHTS suggestions? HOSE supposed to be hard? What can I test?

Second issue: The starter doesn't want to work part of the time... at first it would not turn at all.. no cranking... I figured battery issue... so I hooked up a charger.. let it charge for about 15 mins, left it on charger while trying.. and bam it cranked right over.. rode it for awhile... turned it off and tried to turn over again... NOTHING!.. the battery is measuring about 12.2-12.3.... any thoughts? when it does not crank, I hear it click one time when I push starter and see headlights dim a bit..

That's the extent of the problems so far..

I know yall know way more than me! so throw it at me HARD N FAST! I can take it without lube!

The battery start the scoot up and test the battery it should read 12.5-12.7 then rev it up to about 3-4K and the voltage should read 13+ on a good charging system it will go into the 14+ range. If it does the voltage reading does not go up when revving it up to 3-5K the Regulator/Rectifier is not putting out.

I am not to cool on the cooling side so someone with a 250 will chime in.

The coolant hoses should soften up a bit and be uncomfortably hot to touch. If they don't you could have a bad pump or thermostat. To test the thermostat put it in a pan of water with a thermometer and heat it up. Your manual will give you a specific temperature for the thermostat to open but mine do it at about 180. To test the fan, short the thermostatic switch on the radiator with a jumper and turn on the key, the fan should come on.

The click you hear when hitting the starter is the solenoid making contact. Since the lights dim it is probably making a contact across the terminals. This makes me think you have a failing starter. Check your solenoid and if that's OK it's probably the starter.

Had a long day at the local amusement park "wolds of Fun-Oceans of Fun" so didn't have time to do anything... tomm will report back on voltage and will try thermo and fan... will check solenoid as well! THANKS guys!

these are both without pulling anything off... I don't have any manual... nor can I find one online... HELP please if u can

Battery: I hooked up meter to battery.. While off 12.4.. while in idle climbed to 12.8... then in slight throttle (no tac on this one) it quickly climbed to 13.5-13.8 while giving gas but as soon at I let off gas it dropped back down to 12.8 and stayed about there... when I turned it off and let it sit, it dropped back down to 12.2 ------- MY GUESS... is either the starter button needs replaced OR the actual starter OR the battery just needs changed out... LOOKS like original battery or at least OLD

Coolant/fan: The temp gauge rose to H while doing battery.. I got under and could see that the fan was NOT running. The engine was pretty damn hot though... The coolant hose coming off the engine was WAY WAY hot! but as I followed it to radiator(far as I could reach up anyways) it became cool. WHERE is my thermostat located? Right behind where the coolant hose goes into engine? or at radiator? (NEWBIE lol) also I don't know how to short the fan to make it run. can u please explain that a lil more.. maybe a pic? I bet if I start ripping off plastic I can figure it out... but just want to gather all info before I head in.

Those charging voltages seem OK to me so I think your stator and regulator/rectifier are good. What do you think Alley? The problem with a failing starter is sometimes they'll work and then the next time it doesn't. First of all, I'm not familiar with your scooter but I believe it's a horizontal engine. Pull the seat bucket and see what type of engine you have, vertical cylinder or horizontal; a pic would be nice.

Did you check your solenoid as I requested in my first post? The tutorial is on a 150 but the principle is the same. Go through the tests and you will know if the start button and other components are OK. If you have the horizontal engine you can use this manual where you will find complete testing on all systems.

Your thermostat will be in a housing where a coolant hose terminates:

Under that housing is the thermostat:

In the back of your radiator you will find a switch screwed in that looks like this:

That is the thermoswitch that turns on the fan when the coolant reaches a certain temperature. It does this by closing the circuit between those two spade connectors that you see. Use a jump such as an alligator test lead to connect the two wires that hook onto the switch and turn on the key. You could just back the wires off a bit from the spades and jump the switch with the wires still on the switch. If the fan starts the motor is OK and something is keeping it from coming on. If that's the case report back here and we'll figure it out.

ok... I wanna tackle one problem at a time.. COOLANT issue seems to be the one that bothers me most.

I opened the bike up a lil to find that the thermoswitch has been jacked with. First one of the terminals was unhooked. as seen below!



Someone has extended the wire to the thermoswitch before... I unwrapped blacktape to find that the wires were both saudered properly... BUT they were touching together... someone just took black tape and wrapped them both together! IDIOTS! rrrrr fixed that So I hooked up the terminal to thermoswitch and got bike to H and still the fan did not kick on.. There is no coolant flow at all... I stuck my pinky in reservoir and ICE COLD. I am headed to store to get laser thermometer to check thermostat in boiling water. I do not have the Yamaha yp250 clone motor (linhai)... I am thinking it is the other one the 250T looks like it anyways... Maybe simply a blown fuse from bad wiring job? going to try in find fuses and go get thermometer now

Ok I hot wired the fan.. direct.. it kicked on with ease... where is my fuse box located? I looked on parts page to see what it looks like.. but I can't find the damn thing.. thanks

Thermostat location? I am still stumped on where this thermostat is located. here is pic of where coolant hose goes into engine.. I took off one hose..

I have a 2008 244cc scoot, that is the vertical engine, and I think what you have shown is the possible radiator cap in the photo with the radiator hose removed. Have you taken that cast part the hose connects too off yet? To me it looks like it would be in the middle of that casting.

With that blue seal around the casting I would guess someone may have been in there. Possible error, thermostat in upside down. I did that once many years ago on a 72 Dodge Dart 6 cyl. Took it to the dealer when I could not figure out the problem. Neither did they so they sent me home. Next day I started over and found it in upside down. Don't know why the dealer did not know up from down.

Fuses on my 2008 are under the seat. No guarantee as it seems those fuses seem to travel around depending on the builders and models. On my machine they are in a small box, maybe 3" X 5" near the front of the motor cover, opposite of the battery.

Rich had a picture of the thermostat housing on a 244cc. At least on the CF Moto. Isn't it behind the cylinder on the left side opposite the exhaust pipe.

A Bashan 250!! Now that's a first. I heard they built them once but I've never seen one before.

Certainly a pretty ugly view. Looks like a lot of sludge in there. Something to clean out before refilling. That looks to me to be a water pump area.

Now there would be another hose coming off the motor heading towards the radiator. Where that hose connects might be the thermostat area. I just looked at the Roketa parts book thinking it might show the thermostat, but it does not.

My scoot is all under cover right now so I can't look at it to help.

I looked at parts book as well no thermostat listed.. does this mean there is not one? Still no luck finding fuse box either.. I am guessing up by the lights since that's only area I can't see

Well, someone mentioned on the left side of engine. That could be on my scoot. There is a hose going in on the top right side and another coming from the top on the left side. The one from the top left side then drops to the floor goes to the rear and rises to the filler port and cap. What goes on beyond that I can not see on my scoot or in my pictures.

That one year difference in build may be why you can't find the fuses where I said they were.
