Thanks for the feedback. When I got this from my son at the beginning of summer, it had sat for quite a while. I bought the new carb, cleaned the tank, disassembled the petcock, and put in a fuel filter. I am thinking, in addition to the filter, that some latent gunk or debris has come loose and it may be a good thing to clean the carb.

What setting should my idle speed and air mixture screws be set at from completely closed or screwed in? I put the air filter on, but the foam had deteriorated so I need another one to work properly. I think it's getting gas but may have dirt in the line/carb yet. May take it off and clean it just in case. It still starts and dies. Hoe long should you run it on the 'start' setting before switching to 'run'?
Thanks, perry

Alley,
Thanks for the reply. I don't have an air filter on it now. I will put that on. I'd like to get a free flow filter, but later. I don't think I have the air mixture screw. I think it's just blocked off, I'll look. What is the srew on the bottom bowl on the side? You can see in pics.
Thanks, Perry

Hi,
I've attached pictures of my carb. I would say its a slider type. It has an internal piston with a needle. When I got it, I just put it on, no adjustments. It worked well at first. Leads me to believe its some sort of dirt or debris maybe in the carb. But could be an out of adjustment mixture. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks, Perry

I have a Yamaha QT 50 and I put a new carb on it. It ran great at first, but now can only start and run on starter fluid. Not getting gas I think. Any ideas? I may take carb off and clean.
Thanks, Peery

Did a little adjusting on the cable for the oil injection pump and it doesn't spit nearly any oil. Could have been just not warmed up or the oil pump was sticking. When I started on it, the throttle cables and the oil cable probably too were sticking, wouldn't close. Think I have it solved. Now... anyone have a big bore kit they don't need!

I realized that as I was posting. I'm not used to 2 cycles. But, the oil I put in goes in the plug on the top of the right hand side of the case, and if the case is open to the bottom of the crank, isn't it possible it could scavenge some oil to the piston and out the exhaust side?

Thanks for the replies. I put oil in the tank for the injection. i used a syntetic 2 cycle oil. That may be a problem. The other oil was the crankcase, and I may have over filled it a bit. Didn't overflow, but maybe a bit over. Thats why I wonder if they are sensitive to the crank case oil level. Now that I think about it, is that the gearbox? Anyway, it pushs out probably a teaspoon of oil. It wasn't warmed up yet so it may stop. It runs well, no sputtering, good power. I need to check the plug to see if it's fouling. I don't think thats an issue. It may just be temporary.
Thanks, Perry

Thanks again for the replies. Now, a new question. I put some oil in the tank, gas in it, changed oil in the crank, and it runs. And runs well. I haven't even adjusted the carb yet. But... it pushes a lot of oil out of the exhaust. It can only come from 2 places. Are these sensitive to crank overfill? It is burning oil, as it should. I imagine the auto-lube pump could be the problem, but I didn't do anything to it and it functioned well before. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Perry

Thanks for the replies. I didn't know what that tube was. Is anyone able to verify that I have the oil line and gas line correct? I'm almost 99.9% sure I do, but just in case.

Hi, I am working on my sons Yamaha QT-50. Put on a new carb, lube the cables, new battery. It's been sitting and I am getting it going again. One question though. On the carb, there is a tube that runs from the bottom of the float chamber and I'm not sure where it goes. It's the pink tube in the picture. I think I have the gas and oil lines right. Please let me know if any one out there knows. I haven't had a chance to work on it til now. Taking it apart and cleaning then it sat. Thanks, Perry Attachments:

Hey Bashan, what mods have you made to the engine in the picture? I am going to get the K&N type filter. I need to flush the gas and oil tanks, What would be suggested? The gas tank smelled like turpentine, so I know some cleaning is in order. The whole engine is dirty and oily so I'm going to Gunk it and wash it. I think I'm going to need a battery too. I tried to charge it, but it didn't register on the charger.
