I think any new guys lurking are usually here to get info and should at least join to get that info. After all we worked hard to get the info and create sections and threads and tips and stuff to help the members. I would just allow them to see what is here and to go into the threads they should have to be a member.

A pop up you have to click is damn near as bad and a web site that pops up with "are you sure you want to leave" and then prevents you from closing the window. I think you may be doing more to keep lurkers from joining than anything with that stuff.

Everything one does or doesn't do is a matter of some action, whether it is click to "create post" click to create thread, etc. so why is it such a strain to click off a window that politely says we would love to hear what you have to say?

As far as lurkers seeing the manuals, in the above news header it clearly states we have manuals, its a coded automated pop up window too, if you google carb, scooter, etc.  it will bring up this site along with others. All the manuals, tech tips, help threads were done with a lot of work they are downloaded on another server and in many cases like me I pay for that server and always do the work for nothing and donate my time so it's not asking a lot to simply take 5 minutes to join up to get what you want for "free" . Don't want to say nothing all fine, you still don't have to say anything with the invite to do so.

Not sure I can work the coding to a see only basis besides with the exception of the PDF's on the outside servers to see it is to read it so why even bother to hide it except for members only, defeats the whole purpose as it was intended in the beginning. For sure we are not the only site that does this.

As a recent lurker I was able to see everything but wasn't able to communicate so I joined. Before I joined there was no request for me to post but, now that I'm a member I do get it, even in the same day I've posted a reply.

This is the only site I've checked out and/or joined where such a pop-up happens.
