So I have a 2011 ruckus that had no electrical power at all after my customer modified his key ignition switch and cut the main wiring harness at that time I replaced the ECU and main wiring harness and got all electrical systems working and got spark back and the bike ran. After getting it running I put radiator back together and filled with water. Then I tried to install a hidden kill switch per my customer. At that point I lost spark. All other electrical systems still work as advertised. I reset the ECU as per standards. I have heard about the IPG and the ECT. When I tried to install the kill switch I connected it to the ECT wire as well as the other kill switch wires and it didn't work so I removed it. that's when I got No Spark.
Does a bad ECT stop spark from happening? What does the IPG do? and would that stop spark as well. I am hoping that the ECT is the problem as that's an easier fix. All wiring is back to normal on the bike and nothing was cut to try the kill switch. Any idea how I can get spark back or at least find out what went wrong.
I also read about a fuel wiring problem stopping spark. Thanks for any help. This is my first ruckus repair, those Chinese scooters keep me busy anyway and are easier to fix than Honda.

If it has fuses for different things check the fuses, May have blown one. Alleyoop

Fuses have been replaced with the wiring harness. As was the solenoids. I haven't seen any other fuses. I don't have the wiring diagram on line to show you. But it's the standard ruckus diagram. Does anyone know about the ect? I can drain the water out and see if that has an effect. When I had it running there was no water in the cooling system.
Any other thoughts?

I wouldn't think the coolant temp or sensor would have anything to do with the spark issue. My first guess would be the ignition pulse generator. The problem there is you need special equipment to test it...or so Honda says. It's the Ruckus equivalent of a trigger coil. Measure the volts on it and see what you get, it can't be that NASA to standard ignitions. Not to insult your intelligence but the kill is wired open right now isn't it? Your kill wires are BL/R and BL/W to ECU? The engine coolant temperature sensor should have only a white wire and I'm curious as to why the kill would be wired into that circuit initially? Rich

I was thinking by interrupting the kill wires it would not start at all without flipping an extra hidden switch. But that is no longer in play. I have all wiring back to factory standards. I actually have the bike back at a local honda dealer and they said there's no voltage coming from the IPG. But they won't tell me for sure unless I buy a new main harness and ECU. So I guess the IPG is bad. From what I know the IPG is on the stator on the ruckus and it's an expensive part. I was hoping everyone's knowledge on here would trump the honda guys. And it has. But it seems it is all pointing to the IPG.
And for john it is carbureted.

I'm save not worked on the Ruckus , please define the 3 letter abrevation . I know my way around ignition systems . Post some pictures that will help tell your story . I'm more than sure we can chump the dealer .

IPG = ignition pulse generator = trigger coil. ECT = engine coolant temperature sensor = thermosensor ECU = electronic control module = computer. Must order new harness and ECU before coughing up info = pompous jerks.

Hence my dilemma. The sad part of the whole fix is. I had it running before the customer wanted and extra hidden you can't ride my bike switch. Now everything is fine except spark. That's what has me so confused. Is there another way around this? I am going to honda to pick it up so not to get killed with cost. I have read where the ect has killed power before and when they replaced it the bikes worked. Any spit balling on here has always helped me in the past. The blog is better than the dealer I have learned.

Can you post pictures ? 150cc or 50cc engine ? Is there an imobilizer on this ? I would like to see the stator magneto and pulse generator .
I'm thinking refitting the stator and cdi and pulse coil to make it run .

If they said there was no voltage from the IPG I'd replace that first and go from there. The next would be the ECU which is probably expensive. Possibly the killswitch roasted the ECU but without Hondas test equipment how do you know? There's a diagnostic plug somewhere near that killswitch, I'm not sure where. If you had the equipment it would probably be a piece of cake. Hey 88, do you have a service manual? I have the full manual somewhere...let me go look. Rich

Do you believe this crap? It was already on Scooter Doc...HAR! This only goes up to 2007 but it's got to be close.
Hey, I just read the ECT could do something like that! If the temp gets too high it TAKES OVER THE IGNITION! Wow.....

So I'm thinking the ECT is going to be the problem. It all started after adding the water to the cooling system. The ECU is good. I reset it and if there were a problem with it, I would have no electricity already. I have the first one that came with the bike and that has no response at all. It is amazing how much more complicated the honda is compared to the Chinese cheapo bikes. But that's why they are so cheap I guess. I might have put a surge of voltage to the ECT when I connected it to a power source when trying the kill switch. That might have fried it which will cause the shutdown, on other Hondas.
As for the 2007 service manual you provided, thanks and it seems they are all very similar so I will try that. A new IPG is incorporated within the stator and is 200 plus dollars through Honda, I can only imagine the ECT since it is only a sensor would be less. So here it goes.............

Honestly, do they need to make a 50cc sport scooter that complicated? Maybe there is something to be said for the simplistic Sinoscoots. How about this?...a temperature gauge and if it goes too high you MANUALLY SHUT DOWN! And do you really need a throttle sensor on a 50cc? Sorry, I know you Rucki love them and they are cool. But, c'mon, it's just making a fun thing too complicated. Rich
