OK, I just read how that vac hose going from the purge valve wasn't hooked to anything. As long as the hose coming FROM the intake manifold was plugged or hooked to something.....your good.

Yes,Exactly how i was starting to see it. Tell me , can you run these engines with the other hoses un hooked and pluged? Example , the one going from the middle of the carb to the bottom of the air cut off valve. And the one going from the intake manifold to the vac nipple on the air cut off valve.

Let me draw you a diagram....I'll get back in about a half hour. Just hold off doing anything until I get done. Rich

This turned out a little more complicated than I thought but bear with me. First, there's the fuel line running from the gas tank to the carb through the petcock. The petcock needs a vac source to open. The ACV valve needs a vac source to open and close. The purge valve needs a vac source to open the valve to let the vapor fumes flow out of the canister to the suction of the airbox:
You can see I illustrated one vac nipple off of the intake manifold. One vac hose runs to the ACV and then connects off of the other nipple to supply the other vac needs via a T fitting. You could arrange the vacuum supply any way you want. You could put the T between the intake manifold and the ACV and run a hose off of that T. If you have a two nipple intake manifold, you could use one of them for the ACV, the other nipple on the ACV to the purge, and the free intake nipple to the petcock. Or any combination you want, just get vacs to those three components. Now if you lose the vapor system, you would need just two vac sources and if you had a two nipple manifold you're done, but you'd have to cap one side of the ACV. Rich

To answer your other question that is still relevant, the ACV port on the side of the carb must have an ACV input from the valve. So yes, the short hose from the ACV valve to the side of the carb must be hooked up. Normally, the ACV bolts right to the side of the carb and there is no hose, but the port is still there. Rich
