If a guy was looking to buy a 150cc scooter, what would you buy? Chinese , Japanese ? Based on affordability, reliability, getting parts, upgrading with motor mods.

That definitely shed a bit of light on the subject. I got that filter from my local O'reilly auto parts store. I also bought a little vac tube connector. fit great and tie strapped it down to my coolant hose. I'm into it about $12 dollars.

If a guy was going to remove this , would he just put a small air breather(filter) on the tube coming out of the crankcase. And just plug the hole on the air intake before the carb? Will i have to adjust the carb.

Yes,Exactly how i was starting to see it. Tell me , can you run these engines with the other hoses un hooked and pluged? Example , the one going from the middle of the carb to the bottom of the air cut off valve. And the one going from the intake manifold to the vac nipple on the air cut off valve.

The acv on mine has two vac. hoses. One goes to the intake manifold and the other goes to my gas tank petcock. The petcock on my scoot has a vac hose connected to it, it works off of vac. there is a valve on it that lets the fuel go to the carb once vac is applied.
I'll start unpluging, and plugging the system up and see if i see a difference.

Rich , i really appreciate you taking the time to work through this with me. I'm just mechanical enough to get myself in trouble sometimes. I sure like learning things about this scoot.
It's a 85 150 elite.

Yes, that is the carb i have. the two open nipples on that acv i think are vac, am i correct? The one facing to the right goes to my fuel petcock no prob there. The one facing down, its connected to the nipple on the intake manifold on my scoot. Is this correct? should i plug that up at each end ?

It looks like to me that the engineers that designed this system should have spent there time doing something more constructive.
What are you gonna do.
My scoot is hooked up like the illustration except for the hose that goes to the intake manifold. It is hooked up to the purge control valve but is routed over close to the carb and just tucked away and not hooked to anything.
My concern is the nipple on the intake manifold has a hose on it. and it goes to the air cut off valve. i think its a vac line , is this correct?

Sorry about this , i have never used photobucket and im having a tough time getting photos on here. Its all on my side here. Im not as good with computers as i should be.
So, the line right above your #1 is coming out of the purge control valve and i think that is suppose to go to the intake manifold but it was unhooked and tucked away hiding. Now the gray hose above that one coming down from the top of the pic. going from left to right and then turning down and turns to a black hose goes directly in to the canister coming from the fuel tank, that is how the book shows it also. #2 goes from the purge control valve to the air cleaner box. #3 is indeed the canister.
