The other day I posted a video with some upgrades that I had put on my scoot. I had it running in the video with the LEDs that I had installed. I received a comment stating that I should rebuild my engine because it sounds like I have a "CRANKSHAFT BEARING KNOCK" due to improper break-in. Is this possible? I don't know if I can upload an audio file but, I will try.

Hello, I have dang near rebuilt the whole scoot! I have finally got this thing running correct! The rectifier, diode replaced and stator replaced. I've got a brand new 7"cooling fan from silicon intakes which by the way turns on when it's supposed to and not on all the time! Now I just have the comment that someone made about the Crankshaft bearing knock. How does one know what that sounds like? Any suggestions?

Not a rebuild expert, or a sound expert but I do hear a weird sound.

I just got everything back together and started it up. I'm waiting for it to get hot to see if the fan comes on when it gets hot. Now that I have listened a little closer, I can hear something but it does not sound like it is coming from the engine itself. It sounds like a bearing in the rear wheel or near the belt section on the bike. Is there a bearing in the rear wheel perhaps that is known to go bad? When I accelerate it sounds like a rattle and then it's gone. The faster I go it goes away.

Could be the variator rollers weights or glide keys shaking around, how many miles do you have on it? Btw watch this video, this is video of my scooter before I replaced my variator. Now it doesn't clink. 1drv.ms/1qN80UY

I have 2454.5 miles on it. By the way the fan and thermos work perfectly. How much for the variator?

sounds like this right? Check your weights and guide keys. And ramps for wear.

YES! It sounds just like that but it is not coming from the engine part. It is coming from the REAR WHEEL. Is there a replaceable bearing for the rear wheel? If so, where is it and what is its proper name.
Scoot info... 2012 jonway yy250t or cf250 motor Roadster.

Are you sure its coming from the back wheel? spin the wheel by hand with the engine off and see if you hear any grinding. If possible take off the front black cover of the CVT and listen to the spinning fan and rev throttle a little to listen for the sound.

I listened, if you take the belt off can you move the crank back and forth or wobble it? Can you rotate it back and forth gently and get a lot of slap? If I had to guess worst case I'd say the connecting rod but you know how it is, sound travels through metal and shows up elsewhere. I once thought I had an engine noise on a Kawi and it was a screw dropped down and caught against the forward frame. Now, you're thinking the rear wheel bearing or final drive shaft? Is the wheel turning when you hear this noise? Does the noise persist at higher RPMs? Do you hear it while riding? If it was the crank journals I don't think you'd be out cruising without a boatload of noise. Do you ever get a loud clunk when you first hit the starter? That guy is probably one of those doom and gloom people, don't get too upset, it's probably not that bad. Also, some people toss off phrases when they've never had an engine apart and wouldn't know a crank journal if it bit them on the arse. Maybe I'm wrong....I'm just sayin'...we need more info. Rich
