While researching future mods to make on my Taotao 50, I added a No Rev Limit CDI. After making the mods I have currently added (mainly roller weights and a windshield), it occurred to me that I don't know if my CDI IS rev limited! The outfit I bought it from apparently imports these directly from China (or wherever), and so far every speed-limiting safeguard has been removed (such as the washer on the CVT belt, exhaust inhibitor, etc.) OR was never installed in the first place. My question is, is there a way I can identify my current (stock) CDI to know if it is "limited"? One article I read (somewhere) said to look for a pink wire, and to remove it, but there isn't one! I just don't want to replace it and find out the original was fine.

A picture of the CDI your talking about would help NOT ALL CDIs are rev limited. Usually what happens is the rpms will only reach around in the 6K range. And not all CDIs have a pink wire, if the CDI has a wire looped on the outside going back in then it is limited. Alleyoop

THANK YOU, ALLEYOOP! I had a feeling that it wasn't limited . . . it just didn't - feel - like it was (not that I make it a habit to feel my scooter parts). I knew either you or Bashan (or both) would know how to tell; I'd be lost without you guys on this forum! I will post a pic just to make sure, but I'm almost positive that it would have been money wasted. Thank you again for ALL of your help. Drew
