I went out to find my new battery dead yesterday. After charging it back up from 6.4 volts I decided to run a test to see how much drain I had on the battery sitting with the ignition off. The manual says zero but I know the clock in the electronic dash draws something along with other functions preserving memory. I found that the bike had a parasitic draw of 50mA. Is that excessive?

ANY draw is bad. If you really want that clock going, then put a small solar panel with a rechargeable battery to run the clock. Anything else should be off and not pulling anything.

More than 10ma will drain your battery pretty quick, I have a Clock/Date built in my instrument panel and it does not drain my battery enough so that it does not start up. But then again I have my machine tuned so that it starts in the 1s or 2nd push of the start button none of this cranking stuff

You won't even get a solenoid click.

Also the magic number for a battery is 9.6.

I agree with cyborg, get the small battery tender and hook it up if the scoot is going to sit for a week or so, its good for the battery also.
