Hey nerds, this is the third time I've had success with this fix. I thought I'd share it with you dweebs. If you have a hard drive that won't open, plug it in or power it up and see what noises it makes. If it makes a bunch of repeated clicks and buzzes the sensor may be stuck on the disc. This happens a lot if they're in use and get jarred. The data recovery places will tell you that once you take the cover off, the drive is ruined from motes of dirt. Balderdash!! Just gently blow it off before replacing the cover. If you get the cover off and you see this:
The sensor is stuck on the disc and must be freed up. Here's the fix, put a torx driver (6 I think) in the center nut and then slowly turn the disc counterclockwise while you gently pull down on the sensor arm. The arm will hopefully free up and snap against the dock (yellow). This disc spun right up after I put the cover on and I copied all of the files just in case it fails again.
Here is one in the normal resting dock position:
If it won't spin at all (no noise) put it in the freezer overnight. Take it out and power it up, sometimes freezing it will unlock the step motor.

He's got me jumping through hoops for food! Yes master...what else master?! Fix the computer remotely? Of course.....as you wish. Kidding! I'd do it for Jack even if it was just for the porno!
