Well, I keep having this tapping sound when I start the engine and stays the same level even when cold started. Sound will not change with engine temp but rather sound much faster tapping with engine rpm increasing. I have been driving like this with this sound for a long time and no damage has occurred(that i'm aware off). So my question is after adjusting valves both intake and exhaust to .004 make the exhaust valve loud or is this normal? Motorcycle is a DF250RTC with a CG250 5 speed engine. Also Yes as you can see engine is running inside my house :S see how quick it starts from cold engine? engine was cold and starts quick which I assume valves are ok? No leaks in exhaust

If it bothers you set them to .003, the motor sounds nice and strong and revs nicely tough. Alleyoop

so it does sound like valve gap is a little big? or what is you opinion on that sound? sound comes from the top on valve cover by exhaust side so probably could be the exhaust valve gap is a little big and it may be banging the valve hence the banging sound

Just re-check them maybe the gap is wider than .004 when you do valves before you button it back up always turn the motor over several times and bring it back up to tdc and re-check the valves. Many times you will find that while tighten down the lock nut you are a little off. Don't forget we are talking MM so doesn't take much to be off one way or the other. Alleyoop

The other thing that struck me was cam chain. Does that have an auto tensioner? If not do you need to adjust the tension on the chain? Just floating balloons.

I would check them to make sure they are set to spec. It"s been said here before.." ticking valves are happy valves"...Don't go too tight
Totally different engine class...But my R1200C valve clearance spec is .006" intake and .012" exhaust...and it has two, 4 valve heads.....do you think I can hear any ticking from those buggers?
