Before my last computer crashed I used an e-mail program, I forget the name, that was a bit childish but had some nice features. The one I miss is the notifier than you have just received a new message. There were both sound and visual alerts. Could anyone suggest such a program. It would be handy trying to sell things on Craigs List when things are moving rapidly.

Thunderbird, you can put in any sound found on net for notification. I have a hindu or chinese GONG, one of those low pitched 3' to 4' in dia things you see in movies that they hit with a big club!

I also use Thunderbird. You can customize it to do most of your PIM stuff. (Personal Information Manager)
I have mine tied into my google calendar.

PIM and anything Google is a bad match in my opinion. Google is a data miner and an offshoot of AOL that takes over every aspect of your computer. I had to replace a hard drive because of there intrusions and that it was impossible to remove all aspects of it.
I've tried a couple free down loads but all want to do a security check and correct what they call errors.
I'll look into Thunderbird later, got other things this morning.

Yeah, I hate google too, but the people I work with use it and if I want to get paid, I have to comply. Feels like the Borg are here already.

Go to your control panel and click on sounds then scroll down to Mail notifications, I recorded,"HEY YOU GOT MAIL" and use that

Alleyoop, that is fine but it only does it once and only if Windows is active and the speakers are turned up. The one I had would make the announcement in none Windows programs as well and check for mail at set intervals.

Ferengi are space chihuahuas with money issues. Sorta reminds me of a guy I knew who was a Chinese Jew. He used to squeak when he walked he was so tight.
