You too!??! There's a paper mill on rte 280 right on the Coosa River. The combination of crap that comes out of the mill and the moisture from the river makes some of the thickest fog you can imagine starting in the fall. It was horrible this morning and of course everybody was still driving like a bat out of hell. I tried to reach a balance of not going too fast and not having some arsewipe plow into me from behind. I kept thinking there's going to be an accident! Sure enough, I get into Childersburg and a T bone had just happened between two SUVs. Bad accident too, glass everywhere, people stuck in the vehicles. Luckily the cops and rescue squad were just showing up. If I had been going a little faster I would have been right in the middle of it.

Do you two suffer from some sort of mental deficiency? Or maybe you just have some kind of death wish.
Other highway users can't see us, (or so they say), on clear, sunny days. To ride a scooter, in the conditions you describe, is absolute lunacy, and no less dangerous than placing one bullet in a revolver, giving the cylinder a good spin, putting the weapon to your head, and pulling the trigger.
When you ride in heavy fog, and arrive at your destination unscathed, it is nothing but luck that got you there. Good luck is never a long lasting thing...has a way of changing unexpectedly...

You would just have to experience this scenario to know what I'm saying. There's a paper mill on this river. I have to cross over the river to get to work. When certain atmospheric conditions are in place a wall of fog develops close to the river. Sometimes it is not there. If I didn't ride to work because it might be there....I wouldn't ride. Sometimes it's there but not so bad. This particular day it was the worst ever. I could turn around and head home but I have bills to pay. I am also going to ride...end of story. I take precautions best I can like wear a vest but it still gets hairy on occasion. It is only for a short part of the ride but when it's bad it is bad. If it was like that every day and for a long stretch I wouldn't do it. But I must balance the joy of riding against the inherent risks of riding...and ride I shall. The wife understands and agrees.
And no I don't have a mental deficiency, I did fix your signature for you. Rich

Rich, thanks for fixing my signature....looks better.
I didn't mean to get you worked up.....it's just that after operating over 4 million miles professionally, and over 1 million more in my 4 wheelers, and on my bikes, (since 1965), I've seen too many people crushed in their vehicles, or lying in the median, or in the road, or on the shoulder.....never to go home again. I know you are an experienced and careful rider, and so am I......but that doesn't mean jack sh*t if you can't be seen by others. You know as well as I, our safety equipment provides little to no protection if you crash at highway speed, or are run over by a 3500 lb car. A fender bender in a car, is a fatal accident on two wheels.
A scooter is not a 365 day a year vehicle. Maybe in places located closer to the equator....but not here
I am familiar with your paper mills, and what they do to surrounding areas. Have done extensive trucking thru the southeast, and loaded or unloaded at more than one of them
I wish you continued good luck Rich.....

I'm not worked up, I'm too damn old for that. Ignore the avatar, that's not my picture.
