take a pic and post it of the middle gear with the interupted teeth,,i'm sure that thing is mangled,,thats what tore up that pinion gear,,,Hey Alley you think the return spring for the kicker failed (broke ) and let the gears keep touching while it was running?,,,and please get some carb or brake cleaner and spray that whole area down and get those metal bits out of there,,,it's buggin me,,,,(sorry i was channeling my father there) Yep that is what apparently happened the Gear did NOT retract far enough and it was riding on part of the gear on the crank and chewed it up. So the problem is the spring or the little gear teeth on the bigger gear to make is move out to engage when you kick the starter down and the gear retracts back out of the way when the kickstarter is up. See how it should be retracted in back of the gear on the crank so the problem is something is wrong with the middle gear spring or it is sticking and not retracting back far enough. Alright so after I get the gear pulled how do I put it back to where it exactly needs to be?
