Hi, I ride a 2011 model Honda spacey 100cc here in Indonesia. I believe its an Indonesian only model. I've had an issue that has slowly been getting worse. It's got a bad case of the shakes, and especially become really bad after a recent tube puncture repair.
I immediately thought the guy who did the puncture repair had done something wrong. Also I assumed something must be something to do with the wheel being out of shape due to the amount of punctures I have had in the last 2 years (about a dozen..scarey stuff) and the method they use..taking tyre lever to the wheel..no fancy tyre shop machiness, its old school melted patches/tubes, pretty rough roadside repair shacks conveniently located every couple kms or so. The roads are really rough here and my spacey cops a hammering daily.
I didn't bother taking it back to the original guy..his operations were pretty minimalist. So I took it to a slightly upmarket shack yesterday and he checked the tyres/ wheels/bearings and said they were Ok. He then played around underneath and muttered something in bahasa Indonesia ..i really only caught the word "swing bar". He said he couldn't fix it..lost in translation mostly.
Anyone got any suggestions about what could be causing this? Is it something a novice could fix..I'm pretty good at following instructions.
If I can get a list of things to check I plan to go see a another repair guy who I can communicate better with, and see if we can fix the shakes.
The vibrations are really bad at 15-20 km/hr. Its a little less noticeable at 40kms..been too scared to go any faster. Really reluctant to ride too far. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Put it on the center stand and start the motor and rev it up and see what is wobbling back there. Also some pictures and or video of it running on the center stand giving it throttle might help see what is wrong. Alleyoop

Hi Alleyoop, thanks for the response. Heres a quick vid. There doesn't appear to be noticeable movement. When i applied some throttle I noticed that the vibration caused the bike to move backwards on its stand. I don't think I have ever throttled on the stand when I haven't been seated. Is that normal??
Let me know what extra info I can provide that may assist cheers

Oh yeah that contraption on the bike is a custom welded rebar surfboard rack, that generally carries an extra 10kg. hasn't given me any grief since I installed. with a surfboard on and doing 60km there must be extra strain on the bike..hmm just thought of that.

Excellent idea to video on closer inspection of the back wheel it appears to be the problem??
Wondering if you can tell if the tyre or wheel rim is the problem. With my bad eyes I missed this yesterday. Watching on the video that I made by placing my iPad on the ground and rotating the wheel I can now clearly see that centre groove really moves over to the left on each revolution..

There's the problem,,,rotate the wheel and look at the side while its spinning,,,the tire may not be seated on the rim correctly,,,,I would bet that this is the case here,,,

it has to something like tyre not being seated correctly, as the problem got really bad immediately after having a flat and having it repaired.
whats weird is that from the side everything looks OK.
Kind of had a nagging doubt about that back tyre having a broken wire, or wheel itself being slightly damaged. There has been a wobble before this episode, not too bad but noticeable which wasn't there originally. Thinking maybe that it will end up being something like that. This last puncture has worsened the problem..maybe. strange because they usually put there hand in and check for stuff like that. bit of a mystery. but its definitely that back wheel. Plenty of good seconds about for cheap here..if it comes to that, or a new tyre or both..would come in under a $100 here... heading up to see my local bike workshop (bengkel motor) soon..
Have another issue..mucking around with it this morning I accidentally flattened the battery. Have kickstarted it fires up..needs get the tyre issue sorted then take it for a long spin to recharge the battery..read that on another post here in the forum. This is great site:) cheers all

update..All fixed. took it to the local puncture repair guy..he reseated the tyre..wobble still there..he said go to wheel press place and get the rim straightened?? didn't find that pace, but instead went to a tyre service centre. they immediately said that it was the tyre. They were correct..it runs beautifully. Suspect I have had an issue with that tyre for some time..nothing that you could see with the naked eye..or feel for that matter. But the most recent puncture made it worse. Total cost for fitting of a brand new "Federal" brand exactly matching the front tyre..$16.50 including fitting. I love Indonesia thanks for the assist.

There is a bulge in the tire on the left hand side. At that point the tire is either not seated properly or you hit something and the cords in the tire are busted. If the cords are busted than the bike is not safe to ride and you will need to get a new tire.

Oh Spacey, I missed you last post somehow. It appears the cords were busted after all. Sometimes when you have had a lot of punctures the tread will separate from the cords. Ive even had truck tires do that and the entire tread peel off. Well Glad your up and safely running. BTW: your surfboard rack looks like a good way to impale someone.
