I bought this tao tao scooter around November of 2014 and the drive belt broke after about 3 months. I replaced it with a cheap $6 or $7 belt and it lasted until July 2015 (about 9 months0 and broke again. I just replace it in July when it broke and it broke on me again just now less than 2 months service on it. I ordered another belt to have on hand and also a new rear clutch. I replaced the front variator clutch on it earlier because I could tell it was worn but I only replaced the rear clutch when I put this last belt on a couple of days ago. Do you think my problem is that I am buying cheap quality belts and need a better quality drive belt so it will last and if so what do you recommend since they all claim to be the best no matter what the price?

I had a clutch that broke all my belts before. Change it and the belts stopped breaking.

tvnacman has it right. A few weeks ago I replaced my 150's Powerlink Premium Belt. It didn't break, but needed to be changed after 6,832 miles of service. I had noticed a slight increase in rpm's, at my preferred cruise speed, and a slight decrease in mpg for two consecutive fill ups. The new belt fixed those two things, and I also noticed it takes less rpm to get things rolling from a dead stop.
Needless to say.....my replacement belt is another Gates Powerlink Premium. Now I'm good to go for another 6,000 miles.
