Okay so, I ordered the new one that Alley linked to.It seems that his stock of 3 are the last ones left in the whole wide world, lol! I couldn't get good enough info on that used one, either. So, gone is the "NOT-ABS" Whew! Thank goodness, because it does save me from having to remove it from the old caliper too. I had walked away from that for a while, to take a breather from frustration. Today, the "Rust reformer" goes onto the frame

Well dagnabbitall !
So, I buy that caliper and the seller doesn't answer the questions I sent him until AFTER he marked the item shipped, telling me that it won't work for my scooter... " it wont fit. your caliper are design for small dirt bike, this big caliper is design for big moped scooter" .
This is after I sent this yesterday... "Hi there. I'm considering your caliper here. The scooter description is what I have and the "65mm" spacing seems right for me but, I'm unsure about the mention of the "44mm" measurement in the listing. Could that measurement possibly be incorrect or measured from the outside- to outside of the brake pad stay/guide bolts? When measuring center to center on mine , I get only 40mm's . I'm attaching photos annotated with my measurements for illustration and, in case , if this one does not work, perhaps you can direct me to any other listing that you may have, that will ? Thank you, very much."
I told him that mine was a large scooter and "can we hold off until we figure this out?"
I so hope that it fits and he/she is wrong. I'm so tired. Perpetually covered in rust, and so tired, lol! Not for long, the rusty part. I got half the scooter painted over with "Rust reformer" today.

Oh, I haven't bought a seat yet nor have I sat on the bike at all. It's been pretty stripped for a while now. I can't even put the panels back on after spending two weeks cleaning, sanding, and painting, until I get a few things done first. I'm painting "Rust reformer" on there now. Here's what it looked like, yesterday on my patio. I talked to Scrappys about it and he sent me a pic of the underside of the seat and it looks like it may be correct. What do we think? scrappys seatThe pic he sent me... My seat hinges and area (Before the cleaning, lol!)

Geez where was that scooter stored? At the bottom of the ocean? You got your work cut out. On the acetone/trany fluid penetrating mix go light on the tranny fluid. Acetone is a lot thiner than most any fluid and it only takes a tiny bit of oil with it then some sort of a shock to break things loose. High heat and quick cooling or a good rap. Seen a plumber break loose some pipe fittings I would have cut off they were so rusty, with a heavy hammer on one side of an elbow and hit the other side with a little smaller one.

Haha, I win, I WIN! Pretty darned CLOSE, jct842 ! Beside the ocean. I live 3 short blocks from it and bought it from my neighbor, upstairs. And this is why I sold my pristine vintage Mustang when I moved here from the Desert 18 years ago. I couldn't stand to watch this salt air get to it. Thanks, for the advice on the penetrant. I'm going to make good use of that!

You probably get the idea of how rusted the bolts and screws were as they came off of this scooter (Crusty with it and some near unrecognizable)but, after a long soak in apple cider vinegar and a dose of WD40, here they are now. It's a small miracle!

When I had to buy replacement parts for my Magna from Beaumont, Texas I was told to soak them in Coke Cola. Not Pepsi. Just Coke. That works as well as the vinegar but leaves that sugar on the parts. Diet Coke doesn't work.

I have heard that some use coca cola especially, for surface rust. Molasses ferments to create acetic acid (vinegar) and works too but, of course takes longer.

Uh oh, I just noticed that , that has the stay bolt heads on the opposite side than mine.Hopefully, it will fit though. The mounting holes are on the correct side . I don't flip things around in my minds eye very easily anymore. I just tend to jostle them, hehe. Hopefully, that will be inconsequential. Okay, time to get the rest of that frame painted.

I got this caliper in and need to check if it actually fits onto my existing bracket. Can anyone tell me the way to remove the bracket from the old caliper, how it releases from the caliper ? I don't want to just try methods for fear of damaging anything. I've searched but can't find anything specific to it. Thank ya !

Doh! Got it. Re examined it and it was just hung up and let loose after some jostling. It can't just sit in its place, can it ? What's to stop any movement from occurring during operation?

Well, the good news is that the caliper IS fitting , Vendor = wrong, Alleyoop = right AGAIN. But there is movement at the caliper that worries me. I suspect that there is something more to putting the caliper bracket onto the caliper than just sitting it in there. Does anyone know of something that I may have missed?

That type just slip on the two protruding bolts and will have a little play just make sure they operate and brake. aLLEYOOP
