I heard that you should trickle charge your battery once a month even if you ride your scooter often. Is this true?

That is False UNLESS of course your scooter charging system is not working right. If your scooter charging system is working it will charge your battery when your riding it. A good 30 minute rides will usually charge yp your battery. If your putting it away for the winter all you need to do is Start it up once a week no accessories on or once every two weeks and let it idle for 15-20 minutes and it will charge up your battery. If your going to be away for more than two weeks then get a TENDER charger which will moniter the charge and charge it when it drops to a certain level and you can keep it on for months.
I do not ride in cold weather so my Trike is always in the garage but I start it once every week or once every two weeks and let it charge up the battery idling for 15-20 minutes. The only time I put my JUNIOR TENDER charger on is when we go to Florida for 1 or 2 months at a time. Alleyoop

Alley, when you get a new battery, do you trickle charge it until it reads 12.6 volts?

Whenever you get a new battery ALWAYS charge it before slapping it in. I usually let them charge overnight on trickle charge. You can give them a quick charge for a couple of hours but then I recommend charging them fully. Alleyoop
