So I got a call today about a fuel pump for a trike. I sold the man a vac pump he ordered off my site. He could not get it to run, I suggested priming it. I got a call it started up for him. I get an email a few weeks later (today) the pump is not working. I see where the pump is mounted it is above the carb and the carb is above the the fuel tank. So it is clear a pump that can draw from the tank is needed. Whats in your trike and how is it situated? Alleyoop, John

HAHAHA, he needs to mount the FUEL PUMP Down by near the tank so that FUEL IS AVAILABLE TO THE FUEL PUMP so it then can PUMP it UP to the Carb. here is my FUEL PUMP on the bottom rail about 1 to 1 1/2 feet from the tank. BUT the fuel flows DOWN to the fuel pump and then it runs 3 1/2 feet UP to my carb. The pump is just that A PUMP but it has to have something to pump. If gas is not readly available at the pump then it has nothing to pump. Here you can see fuel line coming from the Fuel Pump up front and going UP to my Carb.

Just FYI the reverse trikes have the fuel pump above the tank, they draw fuel from the top of the tank.

Bummer those are a bad design the ones that have to draw fuel from the top of the tank. There are some retro scooters that have that as well but the tank is in the floor board and draw from the top of the tank and get this the fuel pump is mounted higher than the tank then the people complain that at times the damn things peter out(NO crap SHERLOCK) what do you expect. Any break in the siphon effect there will be no gas by the pump or in the line up to the fuel pump.
So for those the best thing to do is mount the FUEL PUMP close to the top of the tank and close to even with the top of the tank if possible. Then you have a better shot as the suction works it keeps the line from the tank to the pump full. Alleyoop
