Hi all, i recently purchased a 150 taotao here in texas and with 150KM it has lost the horn and tachometer already. wondering where to start. I tried to pull the front plastic off ( Headlight area) to look for wires that may have come loose but it wont seem to come apart even pulling every screw i can find. Tried to pull the top of handlebar plastic off too but it wont budge. Any ideas on how to get the plastics off so i can find the problem? Heck, i cant even change he headlight bulb if i wanted to. I have every tool in the book to do any mechanical work but this scooter is stumping me. Also now i am noticing a vibration/noise under acceleration in the belt drive system. it is smooth as silk until I put the power to it and stays constant until i release throttle. I checked muffler and bolts around the area but it is coming from inside the belt cover. Thanks in advance for any help.

it shouldn't take special tools ( other than a feeler gauge and impact gun ) to work on these bikes. front panels on mine are held on with 4 phillips head screws. the noise from the cvt is probably either a worn out belt or rollers in the variator.

Well I figured out the horn.. you have to pull the instrument cluster out first by unsnapping at the top seam at the front plastic piece (its tight). then the screws holding the front small panel above headlight are inside. then I found the horn wire had fallen off the spade. I tightened with needle nose and reinstalled. I sprayed all connections with Caig Deoxit but never found the problem with the tachometer. maybe its unplugged deeper in the motor area. I'm hoping its just a belt but it seems odd that a scooter with 150 ultra easy kilometers (93 miles) would wear the belt that fast or the variator. I'll try to replace the belt with a better one and have a look at the clutch and belt assembly while its on stand and running to see where exactly it is coming from. its not really so much a vibration but a pulsing noise like buzz buzz buzz harmonics.
