I never read any instructions or comments on the '78 Honda NC50 Express clutch itself. Being in an oil bath,how does on tell when it is only slipping in a normal fashion compared to one that is failing other than the bike won't move?

There should only be a second or two of engagement time till it stops slipping and there's full engagement,,,if you "feel" that its slipping during a run it may be time to disassemble and inspect and or replace
