My scooter seems to shift into a high ratio very quickly and it really kills the low end takeoff power, I would like to go to the sliders instead of the rollers in my variator but I am unsure which ones I should go with, the only mods done to my scooter so far or the orange no limit +4 degrees timing advance CDI box and the orange high output coil, my scooyer tops out at about63 - 64 MPH according to speedomter, I want to be able to still cruise at around the 60MPH mark but I would really like to have a quicker accel. from a stand still. Is what I'm wanting to get done here possible? I have no idea what weight rollers come stock in my scooter so I am unsure which weight sliders I will need to order, so if some/or one of you guys or gals out there can give me some info. on this it will be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance, Shan Attachments:

What your experienceing is due to the weights in your Variator, they are to heavy and pushing the belt up to fast up the Variator. You need lighter weights so that it stays in the low and mid-range longer then climb out as your rpms climb. But since Sliders are more expensive than rollers, I would weigh the rollers you currently have and buy lower weight rollers, about 2 sets. So if your current weights are say 17grams, buy 13,15 gram rollers. Now with that combo you can combine 3-13s and 3-15s for a combo of 14gram, Or you can try 3-15s-3-17s for a combo of 16grams. So with the purchase of just the right two sets you can test out 4 sets of weights. Then when you find which weights you like and give you what you want THEN spend the extra money on Sliders.
I would say for your 150 11s,12s or 13gram weights, which would also raise your rpms. But it all depends what gram weights you currently have. Weigh them otherwise its a crap shoot. Alleyoop

Thanks allyoop,
I read somewhere that if you have....15 gram rollers, that 13 gram sliders will net the same results top end with a much quicker takeoff because they have a broader range than the rollers do and engage differently because they slide up the ramps instead of rolling up the ramps in the variator and it was said that this effect will cause the ratio change to be much smoother and stop the to sudden ratio jump from the low range to the high which helps acceleration.
Is this true from your experience with the sliders or do you use them?

Ok then, now I know what I need to do, I have a scale that measures grams, I use it for figuring postage for selling stuff on ebay sometime, and thanks for the redline info. I run about 7000rpm's @60 and 8000Rpm's @ around 65mph I normally cruise on the highway @ 50-60mph for that reason, dont want to spin it 8K for too long I only have 175 miles on it so far. Thak you very much for the great info. this will for sure help me get it going the way I want it too....
Thanks ALL.....! Shan

Well here is what I found, Now I have rollers 10,10.5,11,12,13. Sliders I have 11,12,13. I found once you find the weight you like IN ROLLERS, Then get 1 Gram Higher in Slider. Reason being is the Roller you choose say it will top out at 7000 rpms(since it changes your rpms 500-600 up or down) and Sliders will change your rpms 200-350rpms up or down. So by going ONE HEAVIER on your Slider once you find the ROLLER You like, your rpms will be almost be Identical with the 1 Gram Heavier Slider than the Roller you like. And since the Slider is 1 Gram Heavier you benefit by more top end to boot.
I have mixed and matched till the cows come home and mine runs the best with 12 Gram Dr. Pulley Sliders. My Trike weights 353 Lbs and my Skinney arse 180lbs:) Alleyoop

Ok then I guess I had it back ackurds, I would need to go the next weight up with the sliders and not down , because the sliders will give me better low end even if they are 1 gram heavier than the original rollers were......if this is true then I would suppose that the 1 gram heavier slider would also possibly increase my top end slightly maybe 1-2 MPH?

Hi Mapbike, Yes, it should increase your top end by 1-2mph if your current weights already are NOT pushing the belt up to the edge of the Variator. So with the weights you currently have before you buy whatever you weights you decide on. Mark the Variator like this and write it down, What Top Speed you get and at What RPMS. Then as you change weights you can compare how high the Belt went up, speed and rpms, then you can pick the best performance weights for you scoot and weight. Alleyoop

this was starting to get a little comfusing here, I was originally uder the impression that just as you said the lighter weights was the way I needed to go but then I kinda got turned around I was under the impression that the 1 gram heavier weights would not hurt my low end if I was using the sliders instead of the stock type rollers, thank you for clearing this up for me, what I will do is check first to see what weight rollers I currently have and then I will just order a set of sliders that are 1gram lighter, and if I think I would like to go even lighter I will then order a set that is 1 gram lighter again and then I can mix & match or what ever I need to do to get it in the ratio that fits my needs best, I live in Central Texas and we have a lot of hills here in what is called the hill country, they are not mountains of coarse but we do have some pretty good hils all around me, my scooter does real good at takeoff most of the time and then other times it acts like it gets stuck in the higher range and is taking off sluggish like the variator is not returning to the lower ratio starting position, is this a problem on the stock variators sometime?
