Hey Guys 'n Gals. I've had my Sunny DF50 reverse trike for a little over a year now, and believe it or not I really haven't modified it that much . . . besides turning it's 50cc motor into an 80cc motor, that is! Anyone who knows me would really be impressed by my self-control. That said, it's really just not fast enough anymore. Since moving to rural Arizona, I've found that most roads around here have a 45 MPH speed limit. The "frog" (what I call my scooter) will actually do 45 MPH, but that's wide-open full throttle ALL THE TIME, and after 20-30 minutes of riding time it CAN'T be good for the motor!
I've heard of people trying to convert these over to a 150cc model, but as we all know the 150's mount from the top of the engine and the 50's mount from the bottom! Most people attempt to weld the upper motor mounts to the 50 frame, but I've not heard of too many (if any) success stories. So here's my project . . . find a 150 frame (preferably with front-end damage), cut it through the "foot" panel, cut the "frog" in the same area, and weld the front of the "frog" to the rear of the 150 frame. This way, I'm actually preserving the original rear end (motor, suspension, etc.) of the 150 and still keeping the front end of the "frog" intact. I'm thinking of adding a "skid plate" between the two frame sections underneath for added strength!
I guess what I'm looking for here is some constructive feedback from you "gurus"! Please don't be afraid to tell me I've lost my mind. It would be much easier just to buy a larger model (Sunny actually produced a 300cc and 600cc version of this), but I can't find a used one for sale, and I REFUSE to buy any of these scooters new!
