I was given a 50cc scooter that my friend had crashed and left in the sun for 3 years. After cleaning the carb and replacing the battery and giving it an oil change it seemed to be running quite well.
The fairing was in pretty bad shape so I decided to replace it. After changing the fairing the scooter seemed to be lacking a little power. I assumed the carb just needed a tune so I thought I would add a pod filter and change the main jet and give it a tune. I removed the airbox and replaced it with a pod filter and changed the main jet to 76, stock was 75.
While I wasn't expecting a great deal of a performance increase I can't work out why the bike is now slower. I'm not sure if it is an issue that started before the pod filter and jet change. On a road where I would normally hit 70km/hr (slightly down hill) the bike is now barely able to make it over 50.
I'm not an expert so I don't really know where to start trouble shooting.
Something I did notice was that the hose connecting the carb to the cylinder was cracked so I repaired it and it seems to be air tight, is it possible that there is an air leak somewhere?
Also there was a vaccuum hose running from the carb to the airbox, do I need to do anything with this?
Thanks in advance for any help.
