Hello Scooter Doc Forum
I'm asking for advice regarding stator replacement on a GY6 125 cc scooter.
It's a Lambretta LN 2012, but it's actually just a SYM Fiddle II 125 2012 with a Lambretta body and styling. All the parts are interchangeable with the SYM.
I've had idling processes ever since I bought it second hand. At idle, the electrics would begin to fade and the engine almost cut out. After doing full electrics diagnostics, the only remaining culprit was the stator.
Today, I managed to get the magneto off, and removed the old stator. It looks ok, except it was filthy. Covered in dust. I live in a city so not surprising.
However, the replacement stator I had bought (spec'd for the SYM Fiddle II 125) is an eight coil, and the one I just removed is a 5 coil.
I understand that it's ok to replace as such, but I want to ask about the implications? Is there anything else I need to do to account for the change in electrical output or performance?
The coils on the eight-coil stator are considerably smaller than those of the five coil, so I'm wondering whether it will make any difference at all.
Any advice welcome.
