Well, I got my new Variator from Scrappy installed this morning and wow what a difference that thing makes, my bike came with 16 Gram Rollers in it and I would turn 7500+/- a little @ 60MPH now with the 13 Gram sliders and the better variator I only hit about 6700 RPM's @ 55MPH and around 7000-7100 @ 60 MPH, I was hoping for better hill climbing power but even though I dropped to the 13 Gram sliders I'm still not getting enough RPM's at around the 55-60 MPH mark I would like to run in on the highway, I wish I would have went with the 11 or 12 Gram sliders now, but I will just have to order another set and do some tuning on it.
Question: Is it normal for the Variator or Centrif. Clutch to not down shift well after it gets good and hot say after a 8-10 mile trip?
I was thinking it was the variator but now I'm thinking it has to be my Centrif. Cltch that is my trouble in this area, new variator made no difference in this area, after a few mile run down the road I can slow down and stop at a stop sign or light and then when I go to take off my bike is very sluggish getting going because it has not returned to the lowest range in the (CVT) gearing, I can tell that I'm taking off in a much higher range than it should be and until I get up too about 20-25 MPH it will not start to pick up speed like it should, It only does this after the engine and drive train is heated up, first thing when all is cool at start of trip it up shifts and down shifts just like it is suppose to, but after heating up the CVT is sticking in a higher range and will not come down when I stop.
Is there anything I may need to remove and clean and lube on the Centrif. Clutch itself?
It seems that this is where the sticking is happening, the motor winds up pretty good taking off but it just barely gets going for about the first 50-60 feet and then it gradually starts picking up some speed after that and then all is fine until I stop again.

I would say you correctly diagnosed your problem with a good, logical approach. The new variator didn't change things so your left with the belt and clutch. I'm sure you looked your belt over when you worked on your CVT and anything obvious would have been noticed. So you'r left with the clutch, and the clutch is just that......a clutch. They get worn, they get hot, they act funny until they cool down and eventually fail. How many miles do you have on the scooter and do you ride a lot of stop and go or hills? Rich

I installed a new Gates Power Link Belt this morning when I replaced the variator, it has got to be the Clutch so here very soon I will be replacing it with an upgraded one from scrappy. ;D

I only have 590 miles but it has acted this way from day one after it is riden a few miles and heated up, for what ever reason it has never returned to the lowest range after it is hot, it always starts off in what I would call 2nd gear, instead of 1st.
I had a scare earlier today, was on the highway doing aboit 55 MPH and all the sudden I started smelling burnt oil..........I looked down and smoke was boiling out from the air intake vent below the front of my seat, I was about 6-7 miles from home and thought Oh My.......! this is just great valve cover gasket blew..........! I stopped got off and looked over everything and could not see any oil leaking so I decided to just cruise on back home nice and easy, well got back fine and to make a long stary short here, it was my PCV Tube that goes up to the air cleaner box, It had a split in it about 2" long and was melted like crazy, that stuff looked like thin junk Vacuum tubing, so I replaced it with some 3/16" fuel line and made a few other adjustments while I had all that plastic off, like......blue locktite on intake nuts being that I had already lost & replaced one of them, so I replaced both with new Locking nuts and put some blue locktite even on them, went over many of the other bolts and checked tightness, so everything is in good order now best I can tell.
I changed my engine and gear oil, I'm running Valvoline Max Life 10w-40 Semi-Synthetic in the engine and I put PX3 Performance Full Synthetic 75W-90 Gear oil in the gear box, I also added about 2 Tbls of Greased Lightening Super Slick Teflon additive in with the engine oil, that stuff is the slickest lube I have ever seen and I use it in just about every engine I have, I have a Briggs 18.5 HP engine on a riding mower that has been abused like crazy out here in the country and after 12 years it still uses no oil and runs like a new engine, so as you can tell I'm sold on the stuff.
Been a good day all in all.... God Bless, Shan

I will just get the whole thing all new, it may even cure my little bit too low RPM's at 55-60MPH if it has a little more stall built into it.
maybe the 13 gram sliders will be just right if it does.
