Yeah, it's just too bad scrappydog doesn't carry manual choke conversion kits/parts.
I toyed around with the auto-enricher. It works fine - extends and contracts just like it's supposed to. With it removed completely, the scoot is still hard to start - does the exact same things listed in my previous post. Anyone have any ideas? I've been unable to ride the thing for weeks now.

Yeah. Put your hand or masking tape over half the air inlet to your air filter and see if it starts. OK, maybe more. If it does you have a choke problem. If it doesn't start looking at your vacuum lines, fuel feed or CDI. Reread your story. OK, two things. One) You've had it for eight months-how many miles and have you adjusted the valves? Second) While all this craziness sounds carb related have you run the scooter in rain, sleet, general wetness? I have a 50cc scooter that gave all the symptoms of fuel and it's the CDI. I haven't dug into the plug for it or replaced it yet but I'm 95% certain all the badness is electrical. Start checking ignition circuit plugs, especially at the CDI and coil. Pull them apart and put them back together and see what happens. BTW www.partsforscooters.comwww.absolutelyscooters.netCall Jim Martin at Rapid Repair Powersports (see banner up there ) about a manual conversion kit.

it's got about 1500 miles on it, and yeah, I've adjusted the valves. It's never been driven in wet conditions at all, and is stored in the garage - the closest it's come to water is when i use a damp sponge to wash it. The vacuum lines are new, as are the fuel lines and filter. Fuel petcock flows fine (visible through filter). I haven't looked into the CDI/coil yet. The plug has spark, good is a relative term. If i compare it to the plugs in my high-output rotaries it looks pretty weak, but it's about comparable to my lawnmower.

My 50cc project had spark but wouldn't run. Then I plugged in new spark plugs (about five new plugs) and it would run and die until I put in another plug. I've pretty much narrowed it down to the coil/CDI. Especially since punching the fender where the CDI is makes it run.

Especially since punching the fender where the CDI is makes it run. You're so scientific KZ . Actually that's what it takes sometimes. Sprocket is right, we need a systematic, logical testing protocol. But in lieu of that, if I were you I'd swap out a coil at this point and see what happens. Rich

If it is an AC would put on a NCY orange, aluminum case CDI. They have no rev limiter and the spark is advanced...
CDIs are all about the capacitor. Most Chinese made ones are OK then they get weak and tired, kinda like me...

You guys have it all wrong forget about the longest day all you have to do is Kick the tires it will start right up No but seriously try changing the Coil then I would put in a New CDI. Not to many things will give you a bad spark, Stator, Pickup Coil, CDI, Plug. Also make sure the Engine has a good ground to the Frame. Alleyoop
