OK, so it's not a scooter. But it does have a scooter engine. An 80 year old guy I know took a splill on his Moto V5 and asked me to look at. He said it would start and run for a bit, sputter, and eventually die. I was pretty sure it had to be the ball check valve and vapor canister so I told him I'd try. I got it going again and I must say these things are quite a machine. I've got a couple questions for you 250 guys before I button it back up.
The vapor canister was sloshing around so I figured the tank wasn't venting. I removed the canister (red X) and looped a vent with a mini filter on the end near the top of the tank. I took it out yesterday and put about 40 very smooth miles on it so I'm pronouncing it fixed.
My first question is about the fuel filter you see with the yellow question mark. That is a filter from the lawn and garden department at Lowes for a lawn tractor. Will that work adequately or does the Moto need finer filtration? The reason I replaced it is because this is the old one:
I thought that looked pretty black in there and the bike has 30K on it. My last question, is this red arrow the water temp sensor?

If the other end is connected to the Vacuum by the Air Intake Its a sensor that opens and closes the door to control the amount of air it gets. Alleyoop

I think that Luke is right. It looks like a water temp sensor for the guage on the dash. I'm using a fuel filter for a Briggs and Straton engine with good results on my YY250T.

18,000 miles and it still runs smoothly. Good for you Rich in fixing it. On another site I go to people are whining all over the place about how they have so much trouble getting them fixed. I keep telling them that all it takes is someone who knows what they're doing to put them on the path to righteousness. It's good to see I'm not totally wrong.
