I put in a new main jet, from stock to #80. Now it bogs at top end with air box, bogging at WOT with air box front plate off. I have an uni filter i bout to put on it but i don't know if that'll make it run too lean. the uni sounds real nice, it makes a real nice dirt bike sound starting about mid rpm range. its a 50cc, Any suggestions?

Try the Uni filter. If the condition improves, then the new jet is not too lean for the stock box. You may have to go even richer with the Uni filter for best results. It sounds like you might be running lean even with the stock air box. What size was the original jet?

Put the Air Box front plate back on, it is drawing to much air in. Alleyoop

well it runs better with the uni, noticed a slight bog at wot, but not as bad as with air box. going to buy a spark plug tomorrow (need a new one anyway) and test it out. might end up up-jetting again

Good job bro, you can just try and raise the needle one notch if it is not bogging bad that might be all you need to do. Alleyoop

ok so i checked out the spark plug and it was bare white, so i hooked the air box back up. now it won't break 20, it seems like its flooding. i think its way too rich so i drilled a couple of small holes in the front plate of air box, going for test run after battery charges.

You have to decide which Filter You are going to use. 1. If you use the UNI you will NEED to feed it MORE GAS to match more air coming in. 2. If you use the Air Box it is the Opposite. So Decide which Air Filter you want to use because it will determine what you have to do to the CARB. You cannot have both. If you set it up for the Air Box and then switch over to the UNI you will have to Up-jet. If you Then Switch back to the Air Box you will be getting to much gas. Alleyoop

It depends on the type of air box filter. If it is a foam airbox filter it is just about the same as the UNI, maybe 10% less on a restricted airbox...
If it is a stock paper then the UNI will flow more air...as alley suggests...

I put the air box back on because the spark plug reading was white with the uni and with a new plug. I want to use the uni, but I don't have immediate access to new jets. I have to drive it to school and such right now so i was trying to find a good medium until my new jets came in. With the air box, it bogs too much, so I'm sticking with the uni right now even thought its running lean.
So what needle were u talking bout?

I think he was referring to the throttle need adjustment in the top of the carb diaphragm

you can use a needle or a small drill bit to open up the jet u just bang the needle in the jet a little ways then test opening it up a little each time if you go to far you can sodier it closed and redrill it 80 seems a bit to small i say 88 would be best depending on elevation im at sea level
