There are two copies of the great Honda Reflex scooter one which has the vertical Honda/Cf Moto 244cc clone engine like Cruiser's pretty YY250T Bumblebee:
It's a great engine with a long history of reliability, look it over and especially take note of the shape of the CVT cover:
The other Reflex clone comes in models like the MC-54B:
Now this has the horizontal Yamaha/Linhai 257cc clone which is a copy from the Yamaha Majesty YY250 scooter, again another great engine; take note of the CVT cover:
The reason I say take note of the CVT cover is by just looking at the left side of either one of the scooter's CVT cover one can know what engine it has, the mufflers are somewhat different too. When looking at online dealers and pictures of the scooter, they are often listed wrong. By looking at the engine you can know which scooter you are getting and of course you need to ask before buying if you have a particular one in mind.
Here are the pros and cons of each scooter:
Honda 244cc PRO
(1) Around 8" longer due to engine design which which makes it a tad smoother on the road
(2) Easy valve adjustment
(3) Engine oil drain plug easy to access
(4) Parts very popular, easy to get
Honda 244cc CON
(1) Radiator stuck in behind gas tank, hurts it's cooling ability
(2) Electrical system has problems in hot summer due to the high amp draw radiator fan, doesn't allow any margain on the electrical and R/R has hard time handling load, risks battery discharge
(3) Transmission gearbox drain plug harder because you must remove CVT cover
Yamaha 257cc PRO
(1) Radiator in the front of gas tank whichs allows outside air flow, makes scooter run cooler, less fan running
(2) Transmission gearbox drain plug on outside easy to access and drain
(3) Electrical system stronger with lower amp radiator fan and better R/R allows for better success with upgrades
Yamaha 257cc CON
(1) Valve adjustment harder, can be lengthy do to having to get things out of the way
(2) Engine oil drain on bottom of engine, not as easy to access
(3) A little shorter length displacement
(4) Parts not as easy as it's 244cc sister
Now on both of these scooters one can work out some of the Cons just like with any scooter. When I first got my Linhai parts were scarce, but just in the last year I find things a lot more easily, I even find things on Ebay.
Cooling and electrical problems with the 244cc can be worked on and improved also. Right now price wise it's seems the linhai is being bought a little cheaper but that comes and goes also.
Valve adjustment some make a big deal of it but with either scooter it's not a "oh I got to adjust my valves everyday thing"! LOL
Me I've rode them both and it's no secret I prefer the linhai 257cc version. Dr. JR
