Chain Gaurd

I bought a almost new 2009 150-11 trike. It only has 353 miles on it. I have changed the oil with Castrol 10w30. What oil do i need to use here in Texas for the gearcase? Also, the chain gaurd was missing. Is it needed for safety or what? Also, is there a place, or is there any oil in the rear axle? Mine does have the reverse on the handle bar. It works, but feels a little jerky sometimes and a little jerky sometimes when I am coming to a stop. Other than that, it runs perfect, and I am getting to 55 pretty quick.
Any help?

75w90 is good gear oil. The chain guard missing is not a big deal. They break really easy cause they are so cheap. Mine broke after like 2 months Had it welded broke again so I took it off have been running since lat 2009 without it.
What do you mean a little jerky sometimes? When starting off does it shutter and or jump? If it does you need to loosen the Cable just a Little about 1/8, they are really a pain and many have had trouble with them when they get out of adjustment.
Just some friendly advice once you get it adjusted so that it does not jerk or shutter in FORWARD, DO NOT USE the Reverse push it they are real easy to push around. Reason is the Cable Stretchs from use and it will start to Shutter and Jump on you and Can Damage the Tranny gears. Alleyoop

Thanks Ally! I have been reading a lot of your post.....and replies the last month before I bought this thing! You and the other members here seem to be a wealth of information.
Is there any place to check or add oil in the rear axle? Grease?
I am sure I will be bothering you again. Thanks for your help!

Alley; The jerky thing is when going into reverse and going back to forward only. Scootover

The Differential takes Grease, use Synthetic Grease in there it runs cooler. There is a Grease nipple right on the Differential to the left of the Sprocket.
When you say Jerky, does it jump or sound like the chain is slipping OR is it just like a Clunk sound. What I am afraid of is if it is an Early Model of 2009 yours also has the Shaft Support Bearing Missing and what happens is with the Torque the shaft moves out a little and the gears do not mesh to good and skip. Alley, Mine is supposed to have the upgraded rear axle. It was made in late august of 2009. I will look for that grease fitting right now.

Alley.
i found the grease fitting but it sure is small! My grease gun wond fit it. Do I remove it to get the grease in, or do i change it to a standard size? Im confused here on this one, I have never seen a grease fitting that small.

Yea, I took mine off and got a NORMAL grease fitting that fits the grease gun. Or you can take it off and just pump grease through the hole eitherway will work. Alleyoop

Alley;
Do I just unscrew it like a regular zerk? I dont want to strip something out. Does a regular zerk fitting fit in the same hole?
Or, do I have to drill and retap for the new zerk?
