Install an exhaust on a Full-Bodied 150cc scooter By trancebear (Read 1,271 times)

If you plan to install one of those plentiful $79.99 performance exhausts from eBay for your GY6 150cc engines be warned that it will take some McGyver style thinking to get it to install. First I had to take it to my favorite exhaust shop to have the pipe bent to even come close to installing on the engine itself. Once that was done I had to hammer one of the tabs away they welded on because it would never be used thanks to my engine fill tube (I was too lazy to get the cutting wheel out). Then the one remaining attachment tab has to be hammered severely to place it near the frame bolt it is going to be attached to. Then you have to use a lot of muscle to pull the whole exhaust system out far enough to install the 3/4 inch spacer they include to install the system to the frame of your scooter. Then I had to purchase an automotive style exhaust hanger from AutoZone to attach the actual muffler to anything that was close. It looks kinda jerry-rigged but it works perfect and doesn't look all that bad. See pics for my mods. if you have any questions feel free to contact me for help. I think you did a great job describing what you went through. Great pics too, thanks for taking the time to post them. I have heard so many members on Scooter Doc complain about the fitment of performance exhausts. I'm not sure what scooter they design these for, I think it's "one size fits none!". I struggled with one trying to get it mounted in the first place:

And then ended up making this Frankensteinian bracket strap to get it to stay on:

I know, I know......ugly as hell, but at least the thing would finally stay on. Anybody else out there have an epic battle with your aftermarket exhaust? Or maybe yours popped right on, I'd like to hear about that too. Rich
