Trikers, Monday it was raining all day so I decided to change my Trikes Tranny Oil. To change it you have to take the Front Sprocket off because the Fill Screw is a little behind the Sprocket. I drained the Oil and notice it was like 200cc of oil that came out. So I followed what everybody says to do fill it up until it starts to drip out of the Fill Hole. I waited until it stopped dripping and button it all up and put the sprocket back on. Then Tuesday It was Windy as heck but I wanted to see if it was quieter back there. So I took just a short 1 mile ride doing about 50 because the wind was over 30mph. Noticed it was real quiet back there and came back parked it. I emailed Dwild62 which we email each other every so often and told him that the Tranny took 3/4 of a quart before it started to drip out of the fill hole. Dwild62 response was "YOU'LL BE SORRY ONCE YOU GET THE OIL NICE AND HOT IT WILL START TO SPIT IT OUT OF THE VENT TUBE AND GET ALL OVER THE PLACE". I responded how can that be in every forum and video they tell you to fill it up until it starts to drip out of the fill hole. He had on previous emails mentioned to only put in 110cc. Well I told him if it starts to spit oil out I would drain some. Well today was a beautiful day in the 70s no wind. I took a 5 mile ride and stopped to smoke a Cig. Well I started to smell oil!! So I checked and SURE ENOUGH the Tranny was spitting out OIL out of the Vent Tube. I moved the Vent tube to the side and back and rode home. It had spit out a little oil but not a whole lot. So I drained half of what I had put in there and I also extended the Vent Tube hose and went over the Frame and back to the Axle Holder and tied it there pointing to the ground. Test rode it all afternoon making high speed runs up to 58mph and everything is fine now. SO BE WARNED, DO NOT FILL YOUR TRIKE TRANNY OIL UP TO THE FILL HOLE. I DID NOT TAKE DWILD62s ADVICE and I got soaked So Believe ME I JUST PROVED WHAT DWILD62 SAID NOT TO DO. I put in I would say around 200-250cc of Oil and no more spitting out the Vent Tube. Alleyoop

marvinnelms, Yes the trikes come with oil in the tranny. But I would change it out for some good tranny oil. Full SYN is good helps keep the temp down and very slippery. As for the Chatter and Jerk, do you have a Reverse on that Trike? I don't think its the Clutch Its more than likely the Reverse Cable needs to be adjusted. What happens is if its not adjusted properly it will Chatter and Jerk almost feels like the Chain is Jumping teeth. The cause is the Gear that moves back and forth to engage the Forward and Reverse Gears is not Fully Meshing and it can damage the gears inside.
If its Chattering and Jumping going Forward you have to take some Tension off the Cable its TO TIGHT and not allowing the Gear to Fully Move onto the Forward Gear.
If its Chattering and Jumping going in Reverse you have to Put more Tension on the Cable its NOT TIGHT enough and not pulling on the Reverse Mechanism enough to fully engage the Reverse Gear.
Now it only takes just a little adjustment either way. Pulling and Releasing the Cable only moves the Mechanism about 3/8-1/2 each either way.
Dwild62 found an easy method to adjust it.
Lossen the cable by the Mechanism which is held in place by two nuts. Push the cable toward the rear so the Mechanism Rotates Counter Clockwise as far as it will go. Then Tighten the two Nuts and go to the Front end of the Cable which would be either on your Handlebar or by the Right Side by the Floor Board and Take up the SLACK in the Cable. Try that.
I started a Thread on here called In this Trike Section about Ice Bear Trikes Reverse Cable Tips. I even have pictures of the Reverse Mechanism and the Two nuts holding the cable on the rear bracket. Alleyoop
