It's been awhile since I've posted here about my new reverse trike. I keep falling in love with her even more,I'm taking her in for her 500 mi. checkup this saturday and having a few things installed like a 12v plugin socket and a few other little niceities.
I've become very proficient at the operating and handling of the ole girl and am thrilled every time I ride her.the cornering is superb and the ride is smooth.
Now,there has been a few quirks that I had to take care of before I was pleased with her, here is the small list of things that I changed or fixed with her.
1.the awful placement of those goofy little front fenders.
I had to bend the braces that bolt to the wheel hub because both sides were way to close to the tire and when you'd hit a bump they'd squeak against the tire, the frames are easily bent by hand. Then bent the small retangle tabs that hold the fenders to the frame so that the fenders were not beeing gouged and chipped by them.thirdly I cut some new feul line into aproximately 1/4 inch washers or spacers and placed them between the mounting tabs and the fenders and then put the fender bolts in and tightened them up snugly, now they never rattle, chip under the fender or squek at all in the last 200 miles.P.S. I used a cresent wrench adjusted to the thickness of the tabs to bend them to the right shape.
2. If you hear squeaking from the front fenders...Make sure you check and snug the easy to get to bolts (only 2 of them) that fasten the fender mounting frame to the wheel hub(very simple),because they do tend to loosen up slightly around every 250 miles and that will keep the turkey squeaks away.
3.Very IMPORTANT!!!! Before you ever ride ANY bike,Buy a good tire gauge...and don't even THINK about SETTING on the bike until you check each and every one of the tire"s pressure.
This is extremely true for the Sunny Roadrunner 300 rev trike, because the handling depends on it. If you even have one tire that is higher or lower pressure than the others and whewee!!! brother, your gonna feel it with really squishy or squirrelly handling. Makes good sense also.
4.Every time I hear a little sqeak from a loose screw or bolt on the bike I put some locktite on it and tighten it back up.
5.I found out that to MASTER this bike you need to...PRACTICE,PRACTICE.and then PRACTICE some more.
I had to loose all fear of riding this strange looking and handling bike and use practicle everyday caution before I became comfortable with it and now I'd absolutely confidently put it up against any other kind or brand of trike and some motorcycles(2 wheelers) for handling period.
6.I also check the oil and coolant levels before riding. I ride at least 27 miles every other day on an old secondary highway (old us hwy 60 in Mo.)where there's very little if any traffic while I'm riding, and,I always take my tool bag filled with a full set of METRIC tools along with me. Oh yeah and I make sure I check my lug nuts on the front wheels before I ride.
I may sound like I'm preaching rules or something, but, these things have factually helped me on this bike and were necessary for me to keep it in tip top shape and made me giggling with joy after EVERY trip.
I hope this helps my friends here. daddue11 Steve
