New Motor Scooter Law
On October 1, 2012, new Maryland vehicle laws will take effect that require all motor scooters and mopeds to be titled and insured, while all operators and passengers must wear a helmet and eye protection. All motor scooters must display a title decal on the rear of the vehicle. These new requirements are in addition to the existing law that requires all motor scooter and moped operators to possess a valid driver's license or a moped operator's permit.
Check back closer to October 1 to be able to title your motor scooter online and receive your title decal in the mail.

Here in Illiniois if it is a MOPED(WITH PEDALS) you have to register it and display a Plate and have insurance take a written test and you only need a Drivers License(no helmet is required). Anything else you need the same PLUS you need to take a driving test on the scoot then you get a new Drivers License with the LETTER "M" IF its a 2 wheel scoot.
If its a TRIKE or 4 Wheeler you get an "ML" restricted to 3 or 4 wheels you are NOT licensed for a 2 wheel scoot. The Reason is a 2 wheel scoot test is harder due to the ZIG ZAGing around the CONES that is the only difference. A Trike or 4 Wheeler cannot go around the cones. Alleyoop
