Having a scoot with a 170cc BBK. Deristricted intake and exhaust plus performance ignition.. I was thinking that I may need an oil cooler this summer to protect the engine. But since synthetic oil keeps its viscosity and performs well at high temps. Maybe it would be just as advetageous as having an oil cooler..After break in with conventional oil. Give me your thoughts. TIA. Mak.

Oil coolers I think are a waste of money, bikes and scoots have been running for decades without oil coolers. The motors are really not built to properly install a oil cooler so that the oil pump pumps the oil through the radiator and back to the motor. The oil pumps on the scoots are not heavy duty pumpers. If your stuck and idling for a long time and having no air blowing through the radiator it will do you no good you would also need a FAN to blow through the radiator to cool the oil.
A good oil and frequent changes is really all that is needed for a 150 scoot. If an oil cooler was so great why on the some they instead have water cooling with a fan just like a car. my .02 Alleyoop
